RJM Mastermind OG - Still worth it??

Hi all! I just found a VEEERY (sub 100$) cheap OG RJM Mastermind midi pedalboard...

I will be using it to control my quad cortex when I don't feel confident to have it in front of me while playing outside (depends on the bar/venue) so I will have the QC pedalboard sitting on top of my power amp so I can also easily tweak it on the fly.

My only concern is that it doesn't have any PC editor...I have had the LT, pbc6x and currently have the GT16 and their editor is SUPER convenient....I never programmed them on the fly...

so with this I will save some $$$ and still have something that will get the job done....I don't have to do anything spectacular with the Midi pedalboard...changing MAX 4 scenes and 1/2 IA functionalities...

What do you think?

thanks for the input!!

I’ve never used mine to program anything, as I just use it in conjunction with a RJM amp gizmo for basic channel switching, etc but it’s built like a tank and should last for years to come.

Yeah, I know that RJM products are easily integrated with their MIDI controllers and of course being bulletproof that's why the temptation....I have like 50% of their current and past catalog LOL but never tried their OG mastermind....

I have a Mastermind GT and love it. Buying that thing basically forced me to learn how to program in MIDI and now I understand how it works, and it feels like I have the most capable controller on the market, MIDI or otherwise.

I'm not sure I'd have been able to stomach the process without a PC editor though.

But any RJM MIDI controller under $100 is worth it to at least try, I'd think. Hell if you don't buy it, send me the link and I might.

I credit RJM for turning me from one of the “MIDI is really complicated and not for me” guys into someone who uses the tech regularly. Good people, great products.

Sorry but I pulled the trigger :D

Might be worth to give it a try!!

Thanks to all who encouraged me to spend more money on RJM gear (:D:D:D)

Shit, I’d just grab a small Morningstar controller for that purpose, but at least ya got room to grow with it if you ever want to build a sick rack rig!
