Asking for a friend.
Most people think their finger fucked and molested gear is gold..
Yep. Peanuts for your gear, gold nuggets for mine. Pretty much always been the case with sellers and buyers.Price fluctuates with possession. If it’s yours, it’s crap. If it’s mine, it’s priceless.
Some interpretation is necessary; “this is a beautiful guitar that I paid top dollar for, just never bonded with it” means it plays & sounds like crap.Yep. Peanuts for your gear, gold nuggets for mine. Pretty much always been the case with sellers and buyers.
This is an amazing (insert piece of gear). So amazing I'm letting it go.
Then there is your area pawn shop or chiseler guitar guy when you bring in the high dollar classic:
"oh this is a nice rare guitar but there is a little fret buzz and some of the gold has worn off the hardware so two grand under your asking price is the best I can do"
Yeah I got some of that last fall shopping for an LP. "Man this is a really rare, hard to find version that they only made a few of". What do you say to some fool like that who is saying this about a jap LP copy? So the deal didn't work out. Dude is still selling the same guitar, six months later, at less than the price I agreed to pay him. You can't fix stupid. Some interpretation is necessary; “this is a beautiful guitar that I paid top dollar for, just never bonded with it” means it plays & sounds like crap.
My old man calls it the Santa Claus effect. A huge number of employers, employees, buyers, and sellers are stuck waiting on eternity in the hopes that Santa will come to town and be the saving grace. The employee who has no life and no problem being owned and paid like a slave. The employee with no work ethic or motivation who wants $30 an hour to roll out of bed. The seller who thinks you are going to pay gold dust for some mass produced crap, the buyer who thinks he should be able to land a '59 burst on a trade for an American Standard Strat and so on.I don't mind paying what something's worth. I mean I won't even haggle if you're asking price is what the item is worth.
Driving to Maine to pay $1000 less than the new price for a totally awesome mixer that has been used is out. Way the fuck out. And as much as you may think a matched set of Ruby 6v6s is a good pair of power tubes, they really aren't. And they certainly aren't worth 2/3 of the cost of NOS tubes that are.
No offense if these items belong to you. PSA though, you are going to find yourself wondering why no one is inquiring about these items at some point. This is why.
I always get it in the ass either way.
I get fucked selling and screwed in the mouth when buying
Have zero negotiating skills and hate to walk away.
My reason is why look for another buyer or seller
Rather be done with it
It is OK bro'; I've done the same thing.I will occasionally chime in on a listing for what I know is a great piece of gear at a reasonable price. I’ll post something like ‘How has this not been snapped up yet’ to bump the listing. I hope that’s OK…
The thing is that IRL you don't get to hear the prices everyone who's tried to haggle before you's managed to get down to; you start from square 1 every time.I don't think it's bad form at all. I mean maybe you could just say I think the price is too high or something instead.
