Is it bad form

I don't think it's bad form at all. I mean maybe you could just say I think the price is too high or something instead.

Price fluctuates with possession. If it’s yours, it’s crap. If it’s mine, it’s priceless.
Yep. Peanuts for your gear, gold nuggets for mine. Pretty much always been the case with sellers and buyers.

This is an amazing (insert piece of gear). So amazing I'm letting it go.

Then there is your area pawn shop or chiseler guitar guy when you bring in the high dollar classic:

"oh this is a nice rare guitar but there is a little fret buzz and some of the gold has worn off the hardware so two grand under your asking price is the best I can do"

Some interpretation is necessary; “this is a beautiful guitar that I paid top dollar for, just never bonded with it” means it plays & sounds like crap.

Yeah I got some of that last fall shopping for an LP. "Man this is a really rare, hard to find version that they only made a few of". What do you say to some fool like that who is saying this about a jap LP copy? So the deal didn't work out. Dude is still selling the same guitar, six months later, at less than the price I agreed to pay him. You can't fix stupid.

I don't mind paying what something's worth. I mean I won't even haggle if you're asking price is what the item is worth.

Driving to Maine to pay $1000 less than the new price for a totally awesome mixer that has been used is out. Way the fuck out. And as much as you may think a matched set of Ruby 6v6s is a good pair of power tubes, they really aren't. And they certainly aren't worth 2/3 of the cost of NOS tubes that are.

No offense if these items belong to you. PSA though, you are going to find yourself wondering why no one is inquiring about these items at some point. This is why.

My old man calls it the Santa Claus effect. A huge number of employers, employees, buyers, and sellers are stuck waiting on eternity in the hopes that Santa will come to town and be the saving grace. The employee who has no life and no problem being owned and paid like a slave. The employee with no work ethic or motivation who wants $30 an hour to roll out of bed. The seller who thinks you are going to pay gold dust for some mass produced crap, the buyer who thinks he should be able to land a '59 burst on a trade for an American Standard Strat and so on.

The ones I find the craziest are the ones who have reposted the same junk gear numerous times a month for years without changing the price. Unfortunately, I know someone who is probably the biggest offender of this and stores their garbage gear outdoors/greenhouses/brokedown cars, etc... only for it to rust and/or literally grow mold. That same person will bitch about being offered $5-10 less for an item that has been posted for years and is absolutely worthless anymore due to the way they have kept it. Is it bad form to call out on a forum classifieds section? Kind of, only because it should mostly be off limits to post OTC quality content in those sections. Everywhere else? Destroy them.

I always get it in the ass either way.
I get fucked selling and screwed in the mouth when buying

Have zero negotiating skills and hate to walk away.

My reason is why look for another buyer or seller

Rather be done with it

Time is money. I probably give away more stuff than I sell, and I buy what I want in the color I want. Takes the stress off of dealing with nonsense that shouldn't probably exist in the first place. When I have small issues on purchases, I will give the seller a heads up, not because I want $$$ off over some frivolous scratch, but because the next person they sell to will, so they should know to look out for it next time. Though one company did sell me a used/damaged guitar that was suppose to be new in the box, so I called them out on it and they claim it was new in the box, despite the serial number on the box not matching the one on the guitar. So, I left a bad review due to their shadiness.

I've never had any issues buying gear from BST sections of gear forums. It's 99% of the reason I was on the queer page. I have given a lot of stuff away in these places for the cost of shipping, but never actually sold anything.

I will occasionally chime in on a listing for what I know is a great piece of gear at a reasonable price. I’ll post something like ‘How has this not been snapped up yet’ to bump the listing. I hope that’s OK…
It is OK bro'; I've done the same thing.

The thing is that IRL you don't get to hear the prices everyone who's tried to haggle before you's managed to get down to; you start from square 1 every time.

IOW, it'd be unfair to the seller to be chipped-down via repeated expressions of dissatisfaction by the community, which is why it's against the rules to complain about prices. You can say you think the price is great. It's stacked in favour of the seller and full privacy between serious potential buyers and the seller.
