Is it just me, or are Marshall prices way out of line?

Looking at the Fiend, JVM410H new is $2400??

Then, you gotta love this--the 1936 2 x 12 is $649, but the JVM410H + 1936 1/2 stack is $2549?

$2700 for the 4-channel 2x12 combo?

Are they just trying to make silly margin off fan boys and kids whose parents have the scratch to burn and don't know any better?

Flame on...

those prices don't sound right, I thought the head was about 1500-1800....?

They know their market.

Don't know about the amp, but, with 28 knobs, it does have the cheapest price per knob of any amp out there.

Hmm, appears they upped the price. It was always $2199.99 new for the 410H for quite some time now.

That's why there are good folks around like Ceriatone that will end up building most of the good MArshall models! His take on the AFD is next. Once he blows the doors off with a SLO copy watch out!

All I know is, I bought a 410H when they FIRST came out, before the two-channel models were in existence. I paid MAP at the time which was $1600. Now, AFAIK, nothing has changed on the amp except the price tag. So is it just they upped the price so that the two-channel JVM models weren't $900? (BTW--at which point they would FLY off the shelves.)

Also, has anyone heard anything about the JVM410HCF? I heard it's a Dave Mustaine signature model but info is fleeting...

Note 100% sure about the HCF but as far as I have read the only difference is the covering. None of the info I have read about the HCF mentions anything about changes to the amp itself such as "Channel 3 voiced specifically for Megadeth" or something like that. Only thing listed different is that it has a custom covering instead of tolex.

Hell, he's had 25 years to try the SLO. I think others beat him to the clone.

They know their market, but are their amps even made in England anymore? If not, I call OVERpriced. Alas though, the market is the market. If people weren't willing to pay the prices, they'd lower them. Of course, if Marshall feels that they should see a specific price point for their amps, this could result in shortcuts, declines in quality, etc.

I know the JVM is listed as made in england on the GC website.

I guess since its pretty much their flagship amp, but like i said earlier, i am pretty sure they raised the price on those suckers from when they came out..

The US dollar isn't worth what it used to be.

For instance, a Dual Rectifier (in Canada) is about $600 cheaper than it cost a few years back.

I looked it up, and you are 100% correct. They jacked it up nicely since it came out.

Very true, makes imports more expensive and exports cheaper.

For that kind of money, Marshall should get back to its roots and out of China.

Theres more to it that - they just raised their prices.

Its a lot more expensive to make now, as while there assembled in the UK, most of the parts are from other countries. With the £ crashing it became (roughyl) 33% more expensive to buy the same thing from out of the country , so Marshall have to raise their prices by a similar % to make the same proffit themselves.

That said, the $ may not be worth what ot once was in some quarters, but actually the £ is worse, so it should be cheaper in the US that it was.

2007, exchange was £1 to $2. So - if the amo cost £1000 in the UK (which it didnt, just for demo) then the cost in the US would be $2000 plus shippin, import tax etc. Call is $2200. The £ then crashed to $1.50, but has since recovered a little to todays $1.58. So today, if the UK price was the same £1000 the us price would now be $1580 plus the same duty etc - total $1780 ish.

Ultimately, Marshall are going to raise their prices every year or so to account from inflation (as every company does pretty much - you wouldnt believe the uproar in the UK when Fender up their pricews a lot - and regularly), and together with the cost of importing the parts this more than offsets the saving due to the £/$.

Not standing up for Marshal here - Im not a fan at all, but its all driven by the cost to manufactur, plus £/$ rates. Over here for instance the JVM is around £1100 but a Dual Rec is £2000 - and a Bognor XTC 101b around £2400. Id wager the prices are much closer stateside for the same reasons.
