Is RT becoming a pain in the ass? Locking up,slow, glitchy etc....Yeah..it's free and I'm getting what I'm paying for but....becoming frustrating!!

no problems over here.

every now and then i'll hit refresh and it'll take a few minutes to load. but usually if i hit 'stop' and 'refresh' again (or just close and reopen firefox), it bounces right back.

I've never had a problem here at rig talk.

Maybe a browser issue?

Scott

no issues for me when i have good wifi.

if i am at a truck stop with slow/weak wifi, it's brutal.

I brought this up a while back and I still have problems. Definately doesn't make life very enjoyable.

How so?

Sounds like some one needs to clean up their hard drive, update their system, or buy a new computer.

No, It's not just you especially if you are running Windows Xp. I find with XP the forum will dog on you and it has a lot to do with the add ins like the Twitter widget and all the new stuff/ add ins that are popular.

Dont blame the operating system for problems that ad-ons create. If ad-ons are the problem then ad-ons are the problem, not ad-ons and the operating systems they support. I have two machines with XP, one with Win 7, and another with archlinux, kubuntu, and debian as a triple boot. I do not have a problem on the site with any of them.

clean out your temp internet folder and see what happens

I'm running a Mac on OS X Lion with both Firefox and Chrome browsers.. I'm getting slow page loads when i come on here recently too.

my PC's (one at home and one at work) are both slow. I can load the page but then it takes a moment or two for the mouse to become active. If you know what I mean.

Works fine for me at home, but can be slow at work.

for starters, a lof of times, problems stem from your ISP. other times its your computer and you have junkware on it you dont even know about.
im not talking about tech savvy computer users, im talking about the everyday person here that just wants to browse some stuff on the net and come to rig talk.

for the most part, PHPbb forums are pretty light on system resources and whatnot, even if you're still running windows98 for that matter. you can set your inernet settings to block images, animations and other stuff too....it all depends on what you want.

if you're still having problems after cleaning out cookies, temp files, history, starting here would be a good place, which is what works particularly well for me.

download CCcleaner, update to the latest version, run it set with the default settings.
http://www.filehippo.com/download_cclea ... 1407bc6ef/

then, go get spybot, install and update to the latest software.
immunize.
then "check for problems."
http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/ ... 43809773/1

make sure your virus protection is updated, and a recent scan has been performed.
these are all things i do on a weekly basis, and i have spybot running in the background along with microsoft security essentials as my primary virus protection on a 64bit win7 system that's 2 years old and pretty clean, and runs flawlessly (i've done some other http://www.tweakhound.com/windows7/tweaking/index.html tweaks too ..use at your own risk. his "services" list is pretty comprehensive, and useful).

the times i have problems on rig-talk "haning" and not loading , as i've mentioned in the past, is when i'm deleting a post...then the whole site hangs...which leads me to believe, the other times i it hangs is when someone else is deleting a post.

i moderate on two other phpbb forums and they have their own glitches too...i think some of what we're experiencing is server bogdown too....the other shit, well, if you read my post above, then go get to work!

also, EVERY time the windows update prompt comes up in my right taskbar, and is sitting there waiting for me to update, i notice a significant change in my downstream bitrate (which i have actually documented).
