Is it possible to get my hands measured for a neck?

Has anyone heard of a service/luthier that/who will measure your hand to design the best neck for your hands?

This has to exist...thoughts, anyone?

i know its a matter of feel...i know the general neck size/shape my hands like, i just want to get it as precise as possible (assuming someone can do this for me)

Seems like a good idea to me. Of course, everyone normally just uses the comparative method. But it would be nice. I'd try it.

Seeing as feel is a very subjective thing, this really makes no sense. It's not like getting fitted for a tux where there is an absolute "right" fit...players with smallish hands sometimes prefer huge necks and vice versa.

basically what im trying to figure out is what the perfect radius would be for my hands. I know i love the 12" radius on LP necks but is there a way to figure out what the precise number would be...whether its 12.125" or 11.885"

I know its not a huge difference, but im just curious to know if someone can actually do it?

I have heard of a custom bass builder that does this. But damn I can't remember his name.

it's 100% preference. i have giant hands and still prefer thin necks with flat fretboards. i also know people with tiny hands who love fat les paul necks, and people with huge hands who like roundy vintage strat fretboards.

if by any chance you can find this, i'd be supremely grateful!

A radius really has nothing to do with hand size though...it's a product of playing style. A smaller radius is much more conducive to chording, whereas a flatter radius facilitates bending and single note runs. That's why compound radii have been popular as a sort of "best of both worlds". I know a guy who actually has a concave radius on one of his guitars as he loves the feel of it for soloing, but it makes anything beyond an R5 power chord very difficult (which is ok with him since that chord style makes up the bulk of his rhythm playing).

I think finding the right "fit" has merit, but I don't think hand size/finger length plays into it to any significant degree...too many other variables at play.

I think it's based on playing style and feel rather than strictly the anatomy of the player's hand. It's the brain and hand interaction in response to the neck. That's something best figured out by trying different necks, and some days my preference changes.

Sounds dumb to me. I have small hands, I prefer the fattest necks I can find because I prefer the feel, really thin necks make my hands cramp and I hold the heretical opinion that big necks = bigger tone.

I also have a preference for les paul scale length guitars too though, just because the frets are closer together and there is less tension. but what will you do if they measure your hands and say "you should like this neck" and you find out you don't?

Go and play a bunch of guitars and measure the guitar neck that you like the most.

If you can find a luthier who thinks he knows what the right size neck for you will be based on your hands measurements, please do me a favor. Ask him to whip up some hair regrowth tonic for me.

I don't know...I thought I had seen it all on musician forums. I guess I haven't.

it's similar as if you had your ears measured for constant hearing damage over the years and you'd ask bareknuckle pickups to make you a 250usd pickup compenating the changes in your hearing according to the output chart provided by Dr. Kent Heere..
