Is KT77 now the preferred Diezel Tube?!

I've tried EL34, KT77 and 6L6 on my VH4. Didn't like the EL34s that much, KT77 were very good, but I'm sticking to 6L6 thank you :)

I don't think so Reza. I think the reason Poppa mentioned that in another thread was that the OP was inquiring about getting more of a glassy effect like that of KT88s. Poppa just said the closest thing to - that he recommends - is KT77.

Least that's my take on it.

In another thread peter has said that he had a 50% failure on the batch of EL34's that he had so he switched to kt77s.

For this week anyway..... ;)

  but there is a truth:

Before I recommend the next tube I want to be
sure to use this tube the next years. Too much
changes during the last 3 years.

I ordered another 500 tubes for a test run.

Till now the tube sounds good and is very, very
reliable. The reason is a maximum rating of 800 volt
on the screen grid.

I will make a statement after the next 4 to 8 weeks.

Thanks,
Peter

Peter, does this mean that I will never receive the EL34 BeeGees I ordered months ago?

I have a few I can select for You.

What happend to the order ?

Please re send to my email address.

Thanks,
Peter

I keep seeing this on different posts as a recommendation.

Should I put these in my VH4 and Hagen now?!

Give them a try, Reza and tell me Your opion.
But ... YOU DON`T HAVE TO ;)

Really need to specify JJ or Gold Lion when talking 77's!

I'm running Gold Lion KT-77's in my VH4, put them in because they have a higher mid focus than SED 34's.

Papa, have you tried EH 6CA7's? I never tried these in a Diezel, but they're my second choice after SED in most Marshall mod type amps.

It´s the KT77-JJ. We are not far away (200 kilometers)
from the factory. Haven´t tried the EH´s till now but
if You consider I will get a quartet in my hands.

Ordered my JJ 77's curious to hear the differance from el34. Need a little more compressed feel... and 88's or 6l6 doesnt get. But bit more open than a 34 while maintaining the Mids.

I obviously stand SERIOUSLY corrected... :aww:

Well, I love the EL34s in my Hagen, love the KT77s in my 20thA, got a 20thA Sheevs coming down the pipe with 88s, so hey, let's see what comes of the new glass. One thing I CAN say with certainty is that I sure as hell don't see a need to change the tone of my Hagen... Thing slaughters as is

Well so be it. I tried whatnot, including KTs and keep coming back to EL34s. While many things can go wrong, if you are ordering in batches of 500-1000, if you are ordering a quartet or sextet, risks are much lower.
There is just something magical between my Einy and a nice fresh set of EL34s.
The only amp where I don't have EL34s is a Mark 4 (sort of) amp made for me ;)

I always come back to a quality sounding el34 as well. Although I like aspects of different tubes. Would be nice if the 77's bring a worthy combination of qualities to the table.

You can mix them with the herbert. I think I may try to get my hands on some 77s and combine them with some el34s and some 6l6's maybe some kt66s and kt88s as well.

Alex

I've been running kt77's and 6550's in the Einstein and it is absolutely the best combo I've used. Totally brutal with a sweet mellow clean.

tube talk...now im in!!!

i loved the KT77s in my VH4. totally killed the EL34s to me. Just better tone overall....even when the KT77s were taboo...

but u still know my fave!!!
Happy New Years to all!!!

I play now the JJ KT77 for about two weeks, and i must say, for me is that the best sounding tube wich i have ever heard! The sound is clear but not to glaring. All in all a very nice warm tone. With the KT77 the artificial harmonics are very nice to play. I love this tube!

Sorry for my bad english...
