Is the 335 the ultimate guitar?

no imo. I had a killer 60's model 335 custom stereo. sounded great but had the tiniest neck of any guitar I've ever played.

I don’t know if it’s the ultimate guitar, but it’s a very nice and versatile guitar.

I’m a guitar whore, so I have most of the different guitar flavors.

The 335 was my jam for years
2007 Historic 63 Block antique cherry.
Pigtail hardware, Alessandro pots/caps
and WB 67 wires’.


335’s can uncomfortable body wise so ya
gotta find the right one to ‘spoon’ with every night.

i had an es-335 for a while. i'm a big extreme metal guy. Its not ideal because its semi hollow, but it certainly gets the job done just fine. They don't look very menacing though, pointy guitars or all black guitars work better for the image.

Yeah, I'm sure it can do it. The same way some people have used Teles for Death Metal. But it's certainly not a first a choice for most people.

I can think of the Wintersun guy with the Tele, but I can't think of a known DM guy using a 335.

They are amazing for sure.

I personally don't really feel like there is anything they can do that a good Les Paul can't though. And the Les Paul gets the edge with much better feedback resistance

I'm kind of considering selling my Burny 335 now tbh

It depends on what you are playing, I wouldn't say it's the best metal guitar.

Great guitar for rock and blues for sure, but I think the strat has the edge for being more versatile, especially with a humbucker in the bridge.

I have an es399 and to me it gives me the nice combo between a 335 and a les Paul, all at a light weight.lately though I have been pretty smitten With a mik epi casino with a bigsby and lollar p90s.

A Les Paul doesn't blow on your arm when its feeding back. Which is really quite cool when it happens. That's it though. I have an Eastman 486 that's OK but it can't fill Lester's shoes.

that o.g. 355 had tone and mojo for days. the varitone switch was interesting also. body shape was a no go for me. wish I still had it. It was a tobacco burst Lucille....

I don't know if I'd call it *the* ultimate guitar, but they're awesome for sure.
Most guitar players would probably be better off with one in the stable at least.
