Is the Dual Rec the new JCM 800?

Agreed with most of what's said here, especially that it happened in the 90's.

My 2 channel was badass. They are workhorses.

I think you can't go wrong with a dual rec. For that matter, I really like the single rec as well. 50w of Mesa is plenty and then some for live use and I never use the tube rectifiers anyway. They can be had for steals. If you can't get a workable tone out of a rectifier...it's not the amp.

I've never tried a Dual Rec. Hopefully it's not the buzzy mess that was the Triple Rec that I played a while back.

I think that Justin Hawkins has been using one of the Rectifiers on The Darkness albums. He makes 'em sound like old plexis. Still hard for me to believe that he's using Mesas for that style.

Yes, I think that it is. Great amp.

What do you think will be the next amp to take on that mantle? 5150 III, JVM, XXX II? At this point, Im not so sure that we'll be using tubes 20 years from now.. Not necessarily saying we'll all be on the Fractal/kemper train... but I don't think tubes will be around for ever either.

Pretty much, its between it and the 5150. Honestly I see the timeline for the evolution of the most widely used metal amps going like this--

JCM800 (80's rock/thrash/metal)-->Mesa Boogie Rectifier (90's metal/nu metal/rock)-->Peavey 5150 (2000's metal)-->Axe-FX (djent :lol: :LOL: )

Not Quite. The 5150 was all over 90's metal. Vast majority of the melodic-death stuff from Europe like At The Gates, Carcass and bands like Machine Head in the U.S.

Not sure if there has been a game changer amp to the same level of the Recto since. Some will point to the 5150, but to me it's just an add-on to what the Recto started.

Me personally, my Rev2 Uber was a game changer for me. And I can say that as I own a MrkIII trannied F Recto also.

Don't forget the SLO in the 80's, that amp turned everything upside down.

Oddly enough, he uses Triple Rectifiers.

It's odd how with such an advanced modelling amplifier & effects unit, that it's being used to create such a horrid, harsh, rattling, springy, congested yet 'hollow' sound that has no thick texture and crunch at all. I can't stand this new "djent" sound. There's a series of videos by some guy on YouTube who promotes his album behind the scenes amongst various video blogs, hopelessly trying to be funny with his goofy facial gestures and rapid 'Youtuber-style' cut-and-paste edits. After. Every. Single. Bloody. Sentence.
Meanwhile, the guitar sound is appalling.

I'd definitely say it's in that same space as the 800 and 5150. When I think of Dual Rec's, I think Dream Theater's Awake, AIC's Dirt and King's X's Dogman...then Godsmack, Korn and Creed come after. While I'm sure Mesa did their fare share of marketing/donating to get those amps out there, there really wasn't much else during the nu-metal era that could get those tones out without flubbing out.

I was born in '82 and didn't start playing until '94, but I remember as a young guitarist back then, Mesa's were IT. You'd go into a Daddy's Junky Music and there'd be Mesa's EVERYWHERE. I still kick myself in the ass regularly for not listening to my dad when he was trying to buy me a MkIV combo over this fucking Fender Champ that I wanted to get. "But David Gilmour and Eric Johnson use Fender combos, dad!" He should have replied "Yeah, they're almost last in the signal chain after $20K of other gear. You're getting this Mesa."
(Dad's a drummer....and I learned early not to listen to them)

I know who you're talking about. The kid who seems like he's trying to act like he has Asperger's? Can't stand them either.
