i'd do Gold Lion KT-88's in the UL before giving up on it, and probably go for all Chinese in the preamp except for V1. then Tung-sol or Sovtek WB in V1. or maybe SED KT-88's, i know the SED's where fucking awesome in my D60!


other than that, the Herbert is one badass mother trucker!

If I was you I would take your head, guitar and maybe even your cab (I would ask what cabs they have their anyway) and go do a direct A/B with the Herbert before you get rid of the UL.

The UL has way better midrange and is not compressed and a great clean sound.

The Herbert has better Bass (I think it's part bass amp) and is very compressed. For my taste the cleans are not as good.

The Bogner is between these two with compression. The cleans are good but different than the other two. In my ears it has more of a Marshall flavor than the other two.

I feel all three are great in different ways.

Go for the new Titan Cerberus, hell Zach may even trade ya for a new build. Killer clean, Modded Marshall style crunch channel, and an AMAZING lead channel. I'm dying for one myself, but I'm more than happy with my 2 channel Titan.

That would give you an idea. I'll record on Pro tools w/ 57 shure mic with NO pluggins or EQs.

So here's where I'm at...

I told my gf last night that I was thinking of trading my VHT for a Diezel. Well that didn't go over so well, she was pretty upset. I got the same sad look when I sold my red US Strat...oh oh...

The good news...she'd rather me just buy one straight up. Yay! lol ...this works for me because like I said, I do have a lot of love for the UL. I just think there's something out there (probably Diezel) that will just do it for me! So I'm gonna save a bit of coin then I'm on the hunt!

I been wanting a Diezel REALLY bad myself.
Go for it!
Thats the only way ever you will know.
Then sell/trade it if its not for you.

I have owned some of the BADDEST amps available along the way too!
But my best amp???

So far I've done Sovteks and JJ's in the power section, Chinese then Tung Sol (excluding v1) in the pre section. I think I've tinkered with it enough and would probably just put the coin towards a Diezel. I'm sure those brands rock though and thanks for the suggestion!

The thing's a beast, and I do love it. I just think there's something I'll gel with slightly better out there. Plus it would be bad ass to have an Ultra Lead and a Herbert! hehe

Had a Hot Rod 50 plus, wasn't my thing. You thinking I should try a SLO?

I had a HR50+, now own an SLO. SLO is a noticeably better sounding amp IMHO.

I don't doubt that. I just don't know if it would be enough of a difference for me. I really want a 3 chan amp and it has to have a killer clean.
