Is The Mesa Reissue Hype Over?

Whatever it is technically, it has aspects of it that reminds of the F, D and C’s I’ve had in different ways (haven’t tried a stock G or E). The Green ch is all F. The Orange is to me like a tighter/less boomy, more cutting F (probably where I get some C resemblance) with some part of the low mid growl reminding me of the D. The Red ch who cares 😂. They sound bleh on all of them vs the orange, hahaha, but actually the red is good too vs other Rev’s imo

I think guys don’t wanna like it and find the big logo and other cosmetics details off putting, but in a blind folded test I bet many would choose the reissue as one of their favorite recto versions. At least I would
pause… they look sexy as fuck… anyone knocking the aesthetic lacks taste… reminds me of my framus dragons with that fancy chrome haha 😍

That’s me my friend :( I love the way they sound in other hands.. not mine lol the fizz/scratch makes me tweak out when I play it 😟 like nails scratching the chalk board or trying to chew those godawful lucky charms marshmallows… I am not a dual rec guy (tho I own 2) 😂but I respect them.. & think they’re a special beast in their own way. personally I love my uberschall’s & prefer them but I understand the Mesa fan base. It’s not a dual rec problem it’s a me problem. However for the brutals I do prefer the voicing of an uberschall.. metalcore, deathmetal, those types of genres… for 90s/80s & even heavy metal dual rec is the sound 🤘🏽
That all makes complete sense. It’s a flavor not for everyone, but I think this is a really great version if one does want that flavor. I need both, but I also would go Uber if I had to pick one of the 2. The early Uber’s are some of my favorites and some guys here also hate them haha, but I get it. The Uber is to me for sure a more brutal, cartoonish amp overall. I especially like it for more European types of metal

I agree. I actually think they improved the look in some ways, but I guess it’s not “original”, oh dear, we’re not allowed to make improvements, just original lol

My Rev 2 is my baby 👀 my blue is what I play the most.. it’s Litterally just Bogner’s take on how he wanted his rectifier to sound right? lol so the DNA is similar-voicing different but they are cousins 🙂

Yeah I guess it’s a Bogner-ized Recto and if I saw I Bogner modded Recto I would be super intrigued by that haha

I've seen them sit, and sit, and sit on the GC used site for years. I can go there almost every week and find one for sale. I'm sure it's a killer amp but no, I don't think they are even in the same stratosphere as an F or earlier Recto.
Or the reissue, for that matter.

That's interesting because I don't think I've ever seen one in person at any store. My only experience with a Recto was one of the 1990s (probably rev G) that sounded flubby. Probably the most disappointing amp I ever bought.

Yeah, it’s really growlly, decently tight, and very balanced. Kind of the perfect uncompressed amp. With a few pedals, you can make this thing do whatever you want.

Sweetwater has one on display. Funny because i recommend taking your favorite boost if you’re going to go demo.. preferably the Dirty Tree. My buddy & I were just talking about this yesterday.. I put it like this:

Dual rec is the child you lectured their whole life that disappoints you from time to time but still somehow gets the job done... which makes them a good kid at the end of the day....
You still love them... but they are annoying sometimes... & hardheaded/ don't always listen.
They don't get far without your advice tho... you have to really fuckin DRIVE them 🙄

I'm mostly referring to GC used; or Music Go Round. There's 2 at GC.com now. 1400 I think. Agree on the Dual Gs. Tubby no matter what I boosted it with. The G Triples were MUCH better in that regard.

My G Triple is tight. Yes, my dual is not but it is still that 90s Recto sound.

For me, Rectos are tighter when the tubes are hotter.

I feel like Gibson/Mesa doing this limited run is their way of suppressing the supply of the used market. At least it worked on me…I was interested in the iic+ RI but not enough to pay that much… that being said, my ++ should be here in a month or two. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.

I was also interested in the dual rec RI. I don’t think the difference between the triple rec and dual rec would be something worth buying new if they tried the limited run tactic.. I’ll be on the lookout for used amps for the recto’s

Yep, the G Dual is the 90s sound...I never really cared for most of the tones I heard back then. Some, of course are great...Facelift, Tool, first Candlebox album (Peavey VTM?), Cry of Love (71 JMP), and others I forget. But, some great albums (Superunknown) had meh tone, to my ears. KingsX Dogman was an F though, and I really like that tone.

Oh man! You’re gonna unleash the hounds if you say a recto was on Facelift. 😂

I think they are going to do a Mark III.
