I have a few different amps and am even considering buying one just to send to you to have modded . Right now I'm considering having either a 70's jmp modded or an 80's jcm . probably gonna do the BE ,c45 ,and the fat with a loop will one sound better than the other after the mod or are they all the same ? Also would you recommend a 100w or a 50w .I know in most cases 100's have more punch but the volume can be a little much.
one more thing do your mods include a master or is that extra
Thanks
Splat
oh and I don't suppose you could mod a mesa lonestar and just replace the dirty channel with the be and c45?

Not sure on the best amps to mod but I was also thinking of going with the 50w Marsha for vol reasons.. But Im glad I got the 100w. The master vol. on his amps are friggin incredible.. The amps sounds great no matter where it is set.

Don't want to answer for Dave but when I've asked him about my Marshall SLP reissue, he said it is a great amp to mod so I imagine your JMP would be the better choice over the JCM 800.

Yea but I can't afford a marsha so thats why I was wondering if his mods include a master

I think you are on the right path with your selection of amp and mods. I have a '77 JMP with the BE, C45 and HBE mods ("Kitchen Sink") and it flat-out smokes all my other stuff, even my Low Gain "Jose" MC Marshall (never thought I'd see that happen..)! 90% of my stuff is played on the BE "channel" (input, really). If my bands played heavier stuff, I'd use the HBE more, but didn't really need it I figger now. I do wish the C45 & HBE modes were foot switchable!

Dittos on the advice that Dave considers the SLP RI's to be great mod platforms. He also said that older SLPs are even better if ya can get one. I never axed him about the 800s... I never hanged around those amps for too long, but I would imagine Dave could tone them out right.

Mine already had a 60/100 switch (from a previous Lee Jackson mod) which is a cool feature, but it doesn't make a lotta dif in the volume until you crank it. It's more of a "loose/stiff" switch at lower volumes and the amp overdrives a little more in the 60 mode. I like the 100 watt mode better and the MV circuit is very good so you can tame the beast volume-wise.

I'm sure he could get a 50 to sound just as good as a 100, he's got pretty good ears for "that" tone. I'm curious to whether he'd mod the Lonestar, too! Do you have the spkrz you want yet?

Looks like mine will be ready in mid August, can't wait.

Yes a 100w Marsha with the lot. I'm playing a 100B XTC, 5153 and a SLO, the Marsha should fit in nicely.

Grrrr! I have a '71 100 superlead just waiting make the trip out to Daves. . .just no money to make it happen quite yet!!! Talk about frustrating.

I wish I knew, I'm interested in that mod from Dave as well, but I'll have to wait a little while... He's modding another amp for me now. It would be a blast to A/B/C/D/E/F compare all of the modder's "Jose" mods, no? And have that one from James Lugo's Amp Shootout there to compare with them! I have never even tried to make a list of all the guys that do "Jose" mods now.... Wasn't Mark C. the first one, or at least the first one I remember....??? Let's see... Feel free to correct or edjumykate me on this:

1) Voodoo Amp
2) Splawn (I think)
3) Mark C.
4) Friedman
5) Fortin
6) FJA
7) ???

Well If I do it I copy exactly 3 of the original ones that I have access to. cost is 700.00 it has the high gain and the low gain in one amp. But I don't add anything or change anything from the original design.

Hi, i checked out a few clips that Splawn did and they sound pretty "Jose"-ish in tone... of course the clips may not represent the amp 100%.. Does Scott do any "Jose" mods?
