Will hand wiring go by the wayside some day or will it always be appreciated by a few? I found these little boards that are perfect for my builds. I have a seperate preamp and power amp board. It takes a lot of time but what im doing now is pre building a bunch of boards so when an order is placed its just a matter of bolting them in and soldering them up. trying to create a quick way of still doing hand wiring.

I think that items built by hand with care will always be appreciated by some. I sure appreciate a nice and neat hand wiring job.

My Rev 2 Uberschall has a considerable amount of handwiring done. Kinda breathtaking, really.

I will always appreciate it. Anytime I see the guts of a Hiwatt I want one really bad. Those and the Reeves should come with plexiglass bottoms so you could appreciate the time, effort, and thought that went into the build.

Fixed

Looks beautiful Jerry! Though I'm currently rockin' a pair of PCB 3-channel amps (XTC and VHT UL), I definitely appreciate a clean, beautiful, simple-looking build such as yours and will own one someday.

It's not a lost art, but like you said Jerry, it takes a lot of time to do it right. When time is money it's easier to just order a bunch of PCB and hit the iron.

yeah those reeves man!!!

It seems these amps are alot of work and I dont want to give in to the PCB age. I can appreciate the sound of a good old fashioned hand wired amp. These amps cannot be compared to PCB for the quality and certainly not price comparing to one another. I am still using turret builds, but been unable to find quality tag boards. Could you possibly PM the part # of those you are using. Thanks

Here is a 17+ watter I built. It has a full tone stack and an EF86 preamp tube and EL84's for the power section. This is one of my favorite subjects! Handwired amplifiers! We should re-name the thread to AMP PORN!

Honest question. Do they sound better?

If not, then their days are numbered. :aww:

I don't think it’s a lost art, but it has become cost prohibitive for some of us. I love amps that are built by hand. They are works of art. The time and pride that went into creating one is just spectacular. However, some of us simply cannot afford to pay the cost of entry. I buy the best tone I can afford- as do many others. While I wince every time I have to pull the iron out and have a go at the computer inside my TriAmp, I know that I can’t afford to buy a new PCB amp, let alone a PTP one. That is not to say that I don’t appreciate the work that builder like you do… I just can’t justify spending that much when I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to pay for my son to go to college. It does look killer though, Jerry. :)

Lost art? Hardly IMO.

That is how you learn to make amps, kits with turret strips and such.

You want to talk lost art, lets talk new designs, voicings, iron, sound levels, etc. Only lost art these days seems to be the mother of invention.

Serious.......turret construction will never die nor be lost. Very easy to do.

Here is a completed build of mine. Designs have evolved quite a bit since. It seems nothing is ever done!
