Is this board scalloped or not?

Just got this guitar yesterday, and there was no mentioning of last frets being scalloped. They appear to be scalloped, but don't feel like it. I'm wondering it was just from filing down fret ends or something like that. It only looks like that on the edges. I've owned JEMs and a YJM and they do NOT feel like those did. Are my eyes playing tricks on me?

This is a Tom Anderson and my others don't look like this which is why I'm so unsure.

Thanks for the help.

No not scalloped (board between the frets is flat as per normal) but the fretboard edges are rounded off...and really badly done as well. Looks like they have rounded off the fret ends and then done the same to the edge of the fret board, probably to "fix" digging in when the did the frets

I'm pissed. It looks like shit and wasn't pictured or described at all. I messaged the guy, but in a polite way of course.

Someone did a hack job on that board for sure.

I take it that it's a used guitar?

Yeah the previous owner fucked with the board. No way that would've left the TAG factory like that.

Yeah its a Pro Am from 07. My guess would be to file down sharp fret ends with a REALLY BIG file.

Thanks for the help guys!

I find fretboards that look like that are SUPER comfortable for your left hand.

It seems like someone tried to roll the edges of the board, and maybe should have left their files in the toolbox (see pic #2).

I agree that it would be comfortable to play, if you can clean the edges up a bit. But I might also try to politely speak to the seller regarding why the "job" was not mentioned prior to money changing hands. If he / she is a jerk about it, return it and walk.

Get rid of it. Looks horrible. You'll never be satisfied with it.

He's being cool about it and responding to my messages fast. He asked if I felt $100 partial refund felt reasonable before I even asked about refunds.

I'm going to take it to my place tomorrow and get their opinion. The bridge was sunk into the body and setup all out of whack. I just stuck something under the bridge to block and tuneup so I could play for a bit.

Yeh bud definitely an amateur roll off job and not scalloped....you might want to have it scalloped though....it feels amazing (that's very subjective however) and will get rid of that

Looks like my MIJ Charvel but obviously much worse...as Chub said it is a comfortable feel, a little more so than my USA Charvel that doesn't have it.

Wow, if that was the one from the bay, I was watching it too. The guy definitely should have mentioned that.

Yeah it was. I put in a bid but didn't win when it was on months ago and sold for 1800. I just for the hell of it put in a bid of $1499 and was suprised to win.

He's being cool about it so I'm hopeful to work something out.

I have an Ibby rg7620 that looks similar from severe playing, would never do that on purpose. That is not a nicely rolled edge. Mine looks that way from years of playing, I'm not a fan. A nicely rolled edge is one thing, that is something else. I love rosewood, but after years of constant playing the edges tend to break down. You're gonna have to play on it some to determine if it's something you can live with, but if it's not, $100 isn't gonna help you sleep at night. If you don't like it, ask kindly to return it. An Anderson is a serious investment, and if it ain't right for you, it's not something that will improve with time. No one wants to be a dick about a sale, but if you can't get alone with those edges, return it it get one you can.
Good luck my friend,
Isabella

I guess the important question is, did you play it & how's it feel to you?
If it's butter, no worries

Does look like they took it to a farrier rasp to the thing though

I didn't do a proper set up just tuned it up and played for an hour.

Official response from Tom Anderson

hi Jim,
that is harsh. it could be smoothed if you don't mind the feel of the frets feeling like islands.

No way is $100 an acceptable offset.

In this case, I'd return that thing, FAST.
