It's a Thin Lizzy cover on a Jorn Lande album, Spirit Black. It's a bonus song and the CD sleeve has no info on it. The solo has plenty of Sykes in it, thick LP tone, neck pickup sustain, and some cool reverb.

totally sykes kinda vibe, apparantely it's Jorn Viggo Lofstad of the band pagan's mind playing on that track

Viggo has played on several Lande albums so i wouldn't be suprised. And there's 1 tiny snippet of vibrato in there at 4:04 that a little unSykes.

Sup Danny!

Jorn rules but to be honest with you, There is nothing Sykes like in that clip other then the back pickup being used

All in my Humble opinion of course. John has much better vibrato, Phrasing , aggresion and tone

Listen to this and this is more likely what he would have done with that tune :D

The things that reminded me of SYkes were the thick tone, and how the player holds onto some of the notes for the ooooooeewww sustain.  and that opening slide in to start the solo. The vibrato was the thing that i thought may have been off, like the little spot at 4:04 i mentioned. Viggo from Pagans Mind does that often so now i know it's him playing this. But he does own an LP Custom and it sounds like him doing his best attempt of a SYkes tone, and i think he got somewhat close IMHO. He also does a pretty cool Vai attempt on a few Pagan Mind songs.

That isn't Sykes.

Funny story... many years ago Sykes got an e-mail from somebody saying they worked with Jorn and they asked if Sykes would be interested in playing guitar for Jorn. Sykes replied, "Thanks very much for the offer, but I respectfully decline." This person then responded to John's reply with another e-mail, attacking and insulting everything Sykes had ever played on and band he's been in. It was pretty funny. We have no idea if this person was actually working with Jorn--who we had never heard of at the time.

Maybe someone from Yngwie's camp? Jorn and some of Yngwie's crew/family got into a ruckus over pay, conditions and agreements, etc. That was a while back though.

Drew - you work with John? Do you know Chip?

Chip Harper?
I belive that's his last name - did FOH for a while, I think with Lizzie?

That's him. I've hung out with Chip whenever Lizzy was in L.A. I know John likes Chip and tries to help him out by recommending him for gigs whenever possible. John has some funny stories about Chip.

I ended up at a fly-in gig with him when he did Doro Pesch at the Camel Rock Casino a few years back. He also had a few funny stories about John.   . I'll just mention hairdrier/pants, and fish fry/kitchen...

You ever work with Sean Haggerty?
