Is your amp's sweet spot at a volume that is unusable?

the load thing sounds like shit at low volumes. no better than a amp at low volumes just more overdrive. if the speakers are not being pushed at least a little bit it is not good. do you have v30`s in the cab with your xtc, if you don`t you need them

i know you want low volume but the whole misconception with the vh thing/load is he did it to power multiple cabs to be LOUDER and effects etc. nothing about being quiet   ive tried this at home and gigs and i was not looking for quiet and i realized if i turned my poweramp up to get the speakers working with the load bullshit/ i could do the same with just the amp. you need a low wattage amp. ;)

I actually think the XTC sounds great at low volumes so I dunno mang.

on the sloclone, 10 oclock on the master is the sweet spot.. which is full volume. I dont have neighbor issues since I live in the middle of nowhere... but playing at that volume is unbearable, the randall iso cab helps (its still loud) to record at that level... but its still too much for my mic and mic preamp to handle...

I dunno man.....here's my stock 68 plexi on 8 slaved and recorded at speaking volume......you might not dig the tone, but its pretty accurate to what it sounds not slaved at reg full volume.

Slaved plexi

So yeah it was barely on...... :)

Plug your main head's speaker out into a Hotplate or load box......set Hotplate to load....run Hotplate's Line out to different amp's power section....turn up the main amps volume where it sounds good and turn down the HP's line out level to whatever volume you need....

my 5150II has the sweetspot at 2 on the volume

its right before the tubes start to get really cooking. a regular 5150 is on about 4.5 to compete with mine dB wise at this point.

anything above 3+ and it starts to get a really dark tone for some reason. i liek alot of presence and its like it loses its bite to a presence blanket.

i guess im lucky i dont have to crank it to 10 =]

I actually don't think the XTC sounds too bad at low volumes. The Mark IV has more of a "loud" tone to it when it's wound down, but the XTC works fine IMO. Obviously it sounds better cranked up, but I can get big fat thick tones at lowish volumes quite easily. I'm talking below 9:00 on the masters.

That said, I generally use my Mark IV for lower volume playing, but I have been using the XTC the past few days and I've been absolutely LOVING the tone.

No doubt the XTC sounds awesome, it just that for it's high price tag I am not able to utilize it. I just picked up a Rackmount Mark IV, so I am going to do a MIDI racksetup again for the Mark IV

Yeah, it sounds great at low volumes, but the Mark IV probably just trumps it for super low volume? I don't really care to be honest though as both sound great and I love playing both

My Cornford man. It goes from 0 volume to above bedroom volumes in 1/1039437 degrees turn of the volume knob lol. I know it's not what you asked but still a similar problem. I find pretty much any volume to sound great so never really figured out a sweet spot to be honest.

But then I bought a Hot Plate and I'm rockin on every volume. Including "barely on"

I run my amp's master volume at 10, and control the channel volume for volume level preference. I can get great low volume high gain tones as well as stupidly loud, chest caving high volume crunch. All by just adjusting the ultra channel volume.

My Stiletto? Totally usable... as long as I'm jamming with a beastly drummer in a big room. :D

My absolute favorite spot on the master is right around 2:00, where the power amp starts to break up. That's... well, it's not bedroom volume, that's for sure.

Would you be able to explain how you "slaved" the amp for this clip?? I'm trying to grasp the concept.

How do you run it into a different amps power section - by going into its FX return? Sorry for the stupid question but I never had an amp with an FX loop. Or can you run the HP line out into the 2nd amps input? Also - how do you need to set your impedances?
