I do have a space left in the rack (though I am contimplating a rack wah in the near future so I would like to keep it open). I currently run an MXR Gate in the front of my 5150III controlled with a GCX. It works ok but can't seem to find the right setting where it cuts most feedback out but doesn't cut off notes. I would like to try either the G-string or the rack version. Since I don't run stereo, are there any benefits of the rack versus the pedal? I'm leaning toward the pedal also because I want to keep the weight of the rack to a minimum (and keep the space in the rack open). Whatcha all think? Thanks in advance.

I would say in you situation the pedal. I have the rack and got it over the pedal for the ability to have different levels of gating in front of the amp and in the loop and I end up setting them the same so...go with the pedal and then get the rack wah (I want on too).

Hmmm. So I can run two different settings? One for the loop and one for in front? I didn't know this. That sounds like a good feature. Though I guess it did for you also until you found out that you keep them set the same.

YEAH. Im sure it may change as i ad more stuff in the loop,i find theres more noise in front anyway.

I have the G-String pedal and it works great with my 5150III. Although since I changed my preamp tubes out on the ivory amp I haven't needed to use it and I took it out of my setup.

I have both and in general the G-String works just as well. For a really
complex setup the rack version might get you a little more noise reduction, but I doubt it.
