EDIT: It's here, baby. See last post for the scoop (ed mids, right? Ha ha!)

My favorite phrase!

An amp AND a cab both arriving today.

Oh hell yeah!!! Pics of the rig kind sir once you get calmed down. I know I am like a kid at Xmas when I got something coming in.

You can't just do that and leave us hanging. WTF mannnnn?

He mentioned the Randall Diablo 100 watter amp earlier this week.

Oops, sorry guys. Work got unexpectedly crazy after I posted this. Didn't mean to leave everyone hanging.

Today's deliveries were the Randall Diavlo RD100 head and an unloaded 2x12. I'm loading up the 2x12 and will demo the amp soon. Tone report to follow!

If you find it a bit sterile, try running an eq through the loop. It really woke it up for me. Hope its great outta the box though..

TONE REPORT, PART I

I got the RD100 hooked up and tested last night, and everything's good. But since I'm doing the apartment living thing (temporarily), I couldn't wind it up like normal.

Even at lower volumes I can definitely hear the Fortin sound in there, so that's cool. I'll be able to crank it tomorrow at band practice (NEW BAND, BROS!). I'll give a more complete tone report on the high gain after that. But at this point, I'm loving having the 3 footswitchable channels (Marshally clean, kinda Mesa crunch, and the high gain channel). Plus it has a FS gain/volume boost for leads.

I can already tell the high gain channel is very interesting. It reminds me of the RD50 I had (Fortin modded), in that the lower range of Channel 3 is kind of Marshall high gain sound, but when you sweep the gain knob up, it's totally modern sounding. Kind of a mix between the max gain tones of an Engl Powerball II, Diezel Hagan, and 5153 50w, with that grinding metallic edge that Fortin amps have.

It's a dark amp, and you have to crank the treble and presence to get it to pop at low volumes. I'm sure (as was mentioned above) an EQ in the loop will work wonders. That's a great secret for ANY amp, but esp one that is already dark with knobs at 12 o'clock. I'll be interested to see how the EQ changes once I get the amp purring.

I'll report back after tomorrow's full volume rehearsal.

We'll all be still sitting here waiting :)

PICS DAMMIT

Sounds like and awesome amp Bill! Looking forward to reading your thoughts on band mix. Love the Fortin sound.

Here's the amp:

I took the Diavlo to rehearsal today, and it was wonderful. It shines on the the high gain channel, of course, and it was really great to hear the awesome Fortin grind at body shaking volume. But the cleans on this amp are surprisingly good, even at higher volumes. The clean channel on most other high gain amps I've played start to break up at gig volume. That won't work for me in gigging, so it's nice the Diavlo clean channel is so functional.

The crunch channel is good, and can definitely cover a large range, from early AC DC to medium JCM 800 stuff.

The shared EQ on this amp is its only drawback, as far as I can see. The channels are voiced so differently, and people will use so many different guitars, pickups, and speakers that these variations mean the channel differences will impact people's EQ preferences on each channel. It really won't make much of a difference gigging, as most tonal nuance goes out the window once the drums kick in. I can highly recommend the RD100 as a really great budget gigging amp. Best in its class for sure.

Oh, and the red LED lights inside the amp are pretty cool!

Coolness Bill! I played Randall stuff for years. Well.......before Fortin had his hands in it.
Like to check one out for sure!

How is it compared to an evh ? Peavey 6505 ? Looking at this or the diamond f4 ...

Sounds like the op likes it ...good deal. I found that I needed an eq in the loop to get it where I liked it. Loop was good, as was the clean. But in that price range I would choose an EVH over the Randall. Haven't played the 6505....the EVH didn't need an eq in the loop.
