I've got $300. Help me achieve brewtality with my lil rig

So I've got about $300 to spend on pedals for metal tones. I've got a good metal guitar (Epi Bjorn Gelotte LP Custom), but my amp is a Peavey Classic 30 combo....The drive channel isn't too bad but it definitely needs boosting to get into metal territory IMO. I'm wondering if I should get a hot rodded Marshall or dedicated metal pedal, or just something to boost the amp's pre-amp gain...Like maybe the Friedman BE-OD for MIB or Green Rhino mk IV or BB Pre for a boost...also looking at a simple analog or tape delay like a Carbon Copy to pair with whatever dirt box I get. Whaddya think?

You probably wont be able to get much of an amp for $300 unless you want to get a combo.

If so I would say Peavey Bandit is a good combo or if you are lucky you could find a beat to crap 5150?

Otherwise there are some pretty awesome pedals you can get. I am very curious about the BE-100 Pedal and really want one but otherwise there are a lot of good options.

Amptweaker Tight Metal, Airis Effects Hades Preamp, MXR 5153, ISP Theta Preamp, Weehbo Morbid Drive, etc.

IMO You would benefit more from a higher gain pedal like listed above vs just a Boost unless you already like your tone. A boost and Pre amp pedal IMO are close to the same thing but many boost pedals do not have much gain.

Good example, that BE100 pedal is classified as an OD pedal but I know it is going to have more than enough gain on tap to run it with your clean channel and be high gain. VS an OD808 will just give you a bit more of what you already have but would probably sound like crap into a clean channel with not enough gain to use on its own.

For $179.00 you can get a 20W Peavey 6505 Piranha Head. Check out the demos on YT, sound pretty good to me for that $.

+1 Actually a really good idea. Forgot about these.

There's also the 6505+ mini. I think those sound a little better although they're both 20w but the mini has like 20/5/1 watt options and in my opinion sounds better.

I saw one in sevenstring.org used for $345 and it came with a couple of pedals.

I think from what I've heard with the Piranah you'd still need a boost to get it where you want it but you could get all that for $300 or less.

Not a bad option at all.

I found a Peavey Ultra Plus for 300 on craigslist. That thing killed (though you'll need a cab).
Protone Misha bulb OD has so much djenty quack to it I did not like it. It is really over the top on those frequencies

I'd keep the peavey classic and boost the drive side, which isn't bad on it's own for classic rock. I think early Metallica ran Rats into Marshalls, pretty metal right there.

Sell the classic, buy an amp that does what you want well. I've learned the hard way that turd polishing only leaves one GASsing.

Sounds like he already has an amp...and is looking for a pedal to boost into metal? Maybe the Fortin Grind? Or a parametric eq like that Empress Paraeq that has a large available db boost....I don't play metal but maybe those would work...

On that budget, I'd swap out the speaker in the combo (V30, Creamback, Lynchback, WGS, etc) and use the remainder on something like a Suhr Riot to get into Metal territory.

Definitely not buying another amp. Just looking for pedal recommendations. Not needing anything for gigging purposes.

Check out some videos of some of the pedals listed and any others.

Someone has the ISP Theta Preamp on sevenstring.org for $300 obo.

Fluff has a really awesome video of that pedal.

That guy's a member here? I like his vids.

My buddy had a Classic 30 in high school and was trying to play Metallica and Pantera tunes with it. I hooked him up with a Boss GE-6 that we put in the loop, scooped the mids and boosted the output a bit, it definitely helped get a sharper sound out the of the amp. I'm not quite sure adding more gain/od to that amp is going to do what you're looking for, you definitely need to get some EQ shaping in there to suck out some of the wool-y midrange.
