What's the value of a mid 80s USA Jackson bolt on in good shape? Thanks!

Depends on the specs:

Dinky or strat?
Maple, rosewood or ebony?
Dots or sharks?
Pickup config?
Rev head? Colour matched?
Graphic / solid?
OFR or Kahler (assuming mid 80's means too early for JT6, likewise too early for oversize pickups)?
All original?

HSS, not dinky, ofr, solid red, black headstock, shark fin, Jackson pups, looks original has hsc..rosewood board

Correction...looks like the JT6 bridge, not reverse HS

Sharkfins are cool, JT6 less so and that probably means oversize bridge humbucker too.

If it's in great shape, maybe 800?

That's what they're asking. So what do you do if you want to swap pups?

heres some to consider

1987 USA model 6 according to chris's site - neck thru / polished frets & setup to shred

I'll bet its way less than $60 to ship too :D

Cool guitar, used to have one. But its MIJ, I'm looking for USA. Thanks though!

Definitely made in Japan. There were no neck through made in USA Charvels. That's why when Randy went to Grover for the white V, Grover put his name on the headstock because Charvel didn't do neck throughs.

The red is a dinky body, not a strat.

But yeah, the JT6 is kind of a pain (as are the 3 mini toggles). To replace the bridge pickup, you can either just live with the gap around it, or talk to Dave at http://www.fretsonthenet.com who sells a conversion pickup ring (big on the outside, small on the inside - reverse tardis!).

HOWEVER, I just saw the other pics of the guitar on the store's website and something isn't quite right - the neck has a Floyd nut not a JT6 string-lock, plus it has a MoP logo which is later than a JT6. So, if I had to bet, it's a 1990s DK1 neck on a 80s body.

That Jackson looks cool. That is a real Dinky body, not this newer shape they call a Dinky.

That bridge is junk but a Floyd fits right on. That pickup switching config is also horrible. It is very difficult to do fast changes back and forth like with a LP style toggle or with a strat style blade.

oops, my bad

I assumed all 80's charvels were made in usa (fort worth TX)

I 2nd Neilli, the headstock doesn't match the body. It should have a painted logo and a Kahler nut. I personally wouldn't pay more than 4-500 for that guitar. The neck is not right, and it's a bolt on. But, I raise my nose to any bolt on Jackson anyway. if I were you I'd just watch for a USA select neck through Jackson. Should be able to find one for around the $1000 mark if you aren't real picky. Then you have a really nice Jackson, rather than the cheesy bolt on versions. Anything from the 80's to basically current on the neck throughs are GTG. Don't buy into the "pre fender" stuff, they are all the same over the years.
