Jackson RR1 problem detuning.

I'm having problems detuning one step down (D) my RR1:
-the main problem is that: only the low D string when i play it open (not fretting anything) has a bit of buzzing/vibrations in the mid of sound decay,
..i play..no buzz..wait 1 second buzz appears...then disappears.

-i've checked all: neck relief,raised a bit the action..nothing solved.

-i'm using Elixir (i know for many they sound dead..i partially agree) 0.11/0.49
-tree tremolo springs.


My ideas:
-trying 0.11/0.52 to have more tension,
-adding another spring (i'll change them all)
-checking Floyd locking nut.

I have a 49 guage string tuned to C on my RR3 right now, so I don't think string guage is the problem. In my experience, a delayed buzzing can mean low action. On my RR3 I had a similar problem, until I slipped a 3x5 card under the bottom part of the nut and locked it down. The thickness was enough to raise the bridge enough to stop the buzzing.

Your nut is too low.
I agree with the above post.
Take the 2 bolts out of the locking nut.
Shim it with a matchbook.
Tighten back up.
You should be good.
There is a lot more oscillation in the strings when tuning down, so you need to compensate for the larger string vibration.

..yes i know strings tension is good for a simple one step down..but also action is right:
bass side: 2.2 mm
high side: 1.8 mm
Neck relief 0.18 inches.

if i raise above the action is like playing acoustic...

Have you placed the card under the neck Floyd locking nut?

I don't lock my nut, just slipped the paper under the nut and screwed it down. Problem solved.

You will have to make a small sacrifice on action height.
You can see how it will be by placing temporary shims of paper between the nut and the 3 clamps under the strings.
You'll need to slot them to go around the screws. Or you can use aluminum foil, folded up and not put the top pieces back yet.
The height difference will not be that dramatic.

And if i put the alu foil ,when i'll find the right setup ,(cutted,drilled for the two screws) not under the floyd's tree looking nuts but under the nut itself?
-no need to replace,
-more solid work.

I've forgotten to reply.

I've placed a Floyd Rose shim (.016") under the locking nut and no more open strings delayed buzz.

Redone setup:

-neck relief: .011"
-action: bass 1,9 - highs 1,6mm

It plays like a breeze!
