What's to know? found a 1999 with OHSC locally. looks to be maple neck-through, mahogany wings, bookmatched maple top. dark blue stain. FR. $1600. Things to look out for? good deal or no? good guitar or no? new to the super strat scene.

WAY too much. I wouldn't pay more than $1200 for one.

Absolutely a good guitar, a very good guitar even, but 1600 might be a bit high for a 1999 unless it´s dead mint. Should be alder wings, though, not mahogany.

From a more historical point of view, 1999 was the fourth year of production of the SL1. Even though they had a production Soloist model since the early 90s, they didn´t land on the SL1, RR1, KV1 format until 1996. The SL1 has been exactly the same ever since, even though color choices have varied. To me the Soloist is the archetypical and original neck-thru superstrat, and I´ve had my SL1 in constant rotation since I bought it new in 2000.

The one thing I don´t fancy with the stock SL1 is the Classic Stack singles. I think the Classic Stacks work fine in some other guitars, but there´s something with the general build of a SL1 that doesn´t mesh well with them. I´ve played several SL1s, and it´s the same thing every time.

yeah, i didnt like the single coil sounds at all. I'd have to block the FR, too i think, thing's annoying.

$1600 is high. Will be putting my my SL2H up soon, $1200 tops.

If you don´t like the Floyd you should keep an eye out for the tunamatic version SL1T. They built quite many so it shouldn´t be to hard to find one.

^that sounds excellent. will look into that.
