Excellent point, made all the better by a producer that actually knew what he was doing. Max was just an engineer that got pulled in after the original producer bounced. Further I don't think Randy's speaker choice helped all that much either. I also don't think Randy was as gear advanced as Ed was during that time, just look at the amps he was using with Quiet Riot. At least his Marshall was a step in the right direction and I do think had he lived his tone would have obviously improved.EVH didn't need any years of tech advancement to have amazing tone. I love RR, he was my number 1 in 1982, but his tone was not the greatest and there is no excuse in my book.
Still growing up during that time, and as a young guitarist myself, Ed's tone had yet to become the legend and aftermarket icon that it is now.
