Sorry but..I've owned and used in a "Band setting" Deizel VH4's and Herberts.."Herbert"?? totally useless.."VH4??" one channel ..sort of.. But..whatever works for you..I do have to say..at home both amps were alot of fun!! but for those dollars?

For all you stuck in the 80's

I'd rather be stuck in the 80's where guitar players had talent than stuck in the early 2000's with way too much gain and a downtuned 7 string guitar on which I only play one string...

I have an 80 watt solid state Marshall RCD from a hundred years ago that has only half of the grill emblem, most of the knobs missing, a fried out FX loop, and a finicky input jack that with a Digitech FX pedal plus 2x12 Emi Govs will do teh deth metalz better than most of the amps mentioned here. And the cleanz slay! And she always sounds exactly the same :)

"No, it’s all pretty new. Guitar-wise I’ve retired the original one because I beat the shit out of it for so many years. But Charvel got a hold of me and asked if I’d be interested in working with them again, so they made me basically a replica of my old guitar. So I’m using that and it’s pretty familiar for me, but as far as the amp setup, I’m using the EVHs. It’s not what I used in the studio because for that I just went back and used a lot of my old heads. I have at least a dozen varying amplifiers and they each do something very well, so I would use whatever amp worked best for the song I was working on, but it’s not particularly versatile, specially when you’re talking about old amps. Old Marshalls, one day you plug into it and they sound God-like, the next day you plug in and they sound like a piece of shit. They’re not consistent, whereas the EVH head is very consistent. It might not be the absolute best-sounding amp I’ve ever played, but it’s a really good-sounding amp and it sounds the same every time I plug it in, so I like using that live. And this time around I’ve done a variation on the speaker cabinet setup where I do it in a ‘V’, so I don’t have a cabinet actually facing me, because guitar-wise it never sounds good when you’re standing right in front of the speakers. It always sounds better when you’re standing off-center a little. So I’m going into two cabinets and they’re both off-center from where I’m standing, so it forms a kind of a V-shape. I don’t know why I never thought of that before (laughs), but I like the sound I’m getting out of that setup right now."

Whole interview.

Cool post. It is just entertaining to hear jake back at it and doing some music. I hope he keeps with it for a while and finds his new second mojo.

I agree with his take on the 5153. Hard to find a fault with it. Lots of versatility there.

so back on topic
did anyone cop jake's record?
how is it?
songs?
jake's playing?

If Jake played a Diezel his guitar wouldn't be audible

Yeah, I never hear James either.

Meh. James sounded much, much better with his Mesa rig.

Of course he did. MUCH better back in his Mesa days.

This thread is a waste of broadband and reminds me of TGP ...

I've said this many times.

Actually, many players, most of the heros, sounded their best when they initially hit. Why they change from the gear and tones that made them legends is beyond me. It has to be money. The music industry is such a shit business they have to do what they have to do I suppose.

Jake should be playing a few of these if its new vs old.

More fitting.
