Anyone check out Jake as the guest musician on TMS?

His playing sounded rusty :aww:
Either way it was good to see him out there.

I dvr'd this entire season so far and holy shit I have had enough of the Appice brothers playing on that show

What show was it?
I DVR'd the one with the Jake interview but
is the one your talking about a recent episode?

Last nite's new ep, Jake was the guest guitarist. Featured guests were Scott Gorham and Rick Warwick of Thin Lizzy. They'll likely be replaying it all week. :)

Agree.. he didn't sound anywhere near what he was. Simple phrasing, open and 5th chord changes.. not what I expected..

BTW.. the tone out of his 5153 sucked imo.. I was never a fan of those amps. A bit midrangy to me..
I was waiting for someone to say that.

Very disappointing. IMO Doug Aldrich as been the best.

John 5 has done a good job in past seasons. He does everything from country to metal, tricks, etc. :)

I actually saw my buddy from high school in the audience wearing his band's (Noisecult) shirt. Was pretty cool seeing him in the crowd.

As for who has been best so far i was pretty impressed with Tesla's Frank Hannon

Jake is the guest musician next Saturday (7/20) as well.

He was definitely up there, but for me, John 5's playing actually got me EXCITED!

As was said, he seemed vey rusty or maybe nervous to be on TV again. Main issue was way too much saturation in his tone. If your not picking clean and in control with your hands it's a mess and it kind of was. Plus considering he's been on much more a classic rock bend for many years I was surprised he used so much gain.

Almost all the (guitar) guests on this show have sucked in my opinion. Sorry but if you give me 30 or 60 seconds I could do better (and I mean it) than almost all the guests and the tones....aghh...forget it, sucked hind tit, fizzy no mids no definition crappy tone that might as well come from a distortion/fuzz box instead of world class amps. Just my opinion but I'd be embarrassed if it were me on national tv with most of what passes as guitar guests on this show, and as much as I was rooting for Jake he sucked too, just nothing of real substance or with any real value, and the guy from last week sucked just as bad if not worse with poor playing and poor tone (the guy in Portnoy's band, I forget his name). Pointless nervous wanking passing a top class guitar players? Really? The drummers have fared much better IMO, at least I've heard some good kits and grooves. Fuckin terrible in my opinion.

just played some riffs.. terrible tone. Best I thought were Gilbert and Sheehan.

Question.

Would the tone be much better in that situation if they used an AxFX direct or Kemper?

Seems like it may be a solution to me. You'd get stereo with some studio quality reverb or delay. Whatever the player wanted. No mic hassle.

Not sure.....I watch the show all the time.....and his tone/playing was some of the worst in the past few years.
Do I think any less of Jake? Hell no!!
Love the guy.....
sure he was little nervous stage scared maybe? :dunno:
I am sure in the room it was killer.....and Jake giving that guitar away??? SO CLASSIC COOL!!! :rawk:
That was one of the best shows I have seen....... even though I didnt dig his playing/tone. ;)

Chris Broderick used an Axe FX. His tone was okay but he didn't impress me with his playing either. Seemed like he was struggling to come up with ideas.
