James is currently mixing my band Kissing Miss Lizzy first record. We're from Norway and play melodic hard rock.
Here is a video that James made while mixing our music. I can tell you that all guitars are tracked using only a modded Tommy Folkesson MK V trough a PDI 09 & Hot Plate. Different guitars provides the variety. We built our own studio (pro tools HD3) bought used from proceeds from gigs. Then we hired a producer and later we approached James to do our mixing. The result is night and day.

I can tell you that James is great to work with. He's both creative and professional, and always interested in the artist input.

I'd like to hear your input. Give us a like on Facebook if you like our music and want updates!

I sooo love watching James do his magic.. I wish I lived in the US with my whole band heh.. He just enjoys it.. the tune is also very very catchy.. good work guys..

Thx. We use Skype and Source live to communicate and adjust during the mixing process, so there is no need to live in the U.S to work with him.

That was really fun to watch, nice work! Song was killer too!

It has been so much fun mixing. Great band and great tunes. Here's a clip from the mix set up. I just spent a week studying mixing from Chris Lord-Alge and was very inspired.

wow what a huge difference between beginning to end.

Guitars sound amazing too

That's all direct Palmer simulated guitars?? sounds really good..

Love Lugo's enthusiasm, in a perfect world he'd double hit and sing some tunes too cause he's got the pipes!!

So how does it work? you send him raw tracks of everything? All individual guitars, vocal layers, bass, tom, kick, snare, cymbal tracks and he adds his mojo to it? Obviously he can't polish a turd so to speak so you have to start with usable product?

Exactly. In order to achieve a good result, you should have a well recorded session. We send over our Pro Tools sessions using WEtransfer (freeware up to 2 GB) James charges about 350 dollars pr song, then you can try to negotiate a discount if you do a whole album. If he has to do any editing and tuning to the tracks, he can charge more, but that hasn't happened to us. After all we hired a producer to make sure it's well recorded.

We were total amateurs when we started out (we probably still are :-), so our learning curve and performances have gone straight up. It really is a test of your resolve to record an album. Two members of the band have either quit or been fired along the way, but like I say, you have got to have the will and stamina to see something like this trough.

I would say that Lugo raises the sound quality/feel of the track by at least 50%. The mixing part is very important to the finished product. He really understands our type of music to, so we really trust him to come up with good choices. After he has sent us his first mix, we listen to it a couple of days and then we meet online using skype and source live to adjust the mix realtime. Works great!

Thanks guys!

The best recording you can get is awesome. Stale' has a very good crew out there and his records are top notch but the truth is many times that's not the case and we do have to do some surgery. Also if you're recording and not 100% sure of you guitar sound always get a DI, I can reamp with any of a dozen heads and cabs I own. As far as cost it's per song and if it's an ep or record we can get a project price to offset the cost some. Here's my online mixing site:
