I know right, a little oil leak in the gulf and we couldn't fix it and some of us, like the OP, think we can point a finger at Japan for not doing things up to his or her expectations? Ya right. Please people, they have experts who are much smarter than anyone here that have studied every scenario and what it comes down to is you can't predict what Mother Nature has in store.


And let's not put the USA up on any pedestal. The world has seen how far we have fallen. If the quake and tsunami hit the USA we'd be up shits creek. Looting, murders, chaos, riots, you know damm well a certain percentage of this Country would be a big part of the problem. When Katrina hit was anyone trying to help their fellow citizen or were they too busy trying to rob the liquor store or break into Best Buy?
 
I just hope that this doesnt effect the delivery of my edwards lp and charvel pro mod !

That's the way it is here in the U.S. You stake out a political position, like pro-Nukes, and then defend it no matter what. Saves one from having to think.

I have a good friend who is FBI, he was in there 2 days after the storm. They found entire homes filled with other people's stuff. For them to be filled 2 days after the storm meant they were stealing stuff during the storm, or just before it actually hit. They admitted they stayed behind during the evacuation for the sole purpose of doing so, and had scouts in the well-off neighborhoods taking down the address's of those who were obviously leaving for a few days. At the point I spoke with him, they had found 9 homes like this, including 1 police officer, who had taken stuff already stolen by the looters from the looters and kept it for himself. 3 of the homes were flooded up to the 4 ft mark, which means it was done before the levee broke. They did not anticipate that happening

I'm not saying there were no problems, I'm just responding to the claim that no one helped anyone. I remember people helping other people out.

There might have been a lot of neglectful mistakes that has happened in the past 6 days, but really, you are sitting behind your computer screen on the other side of the planet watching the news. You are as clueless as anyone else here on what has happened, what they attempted, or how it all went down. I am relaying information as it was told to me by a nuke tech, works in a plant in the USA with the same GE reactor. Like I posted in the thread earlier as in a day or two ago that the structural integrity of tank #4 for was compromised according to his opinion. NHK reported less than 12 hours ago that the tank was compromised. I am not armchair speculating.

Well yes, you are. I know you want to feel like you know what's going on from behind your computer screen, but you don't. Fact. You, nor your buddy are there. You nor your buddy know what obstacles and difficulties they are dealing with. You and your buddy are both sitting in the comfort of your homes, experiencing NOTHING of what none or very few have EVER experienced.

That you think you have a clue what they have and haven't done and what problems they have and haven't overcome is laughable. I really don't care what you feel, and feel is ALL you have, you know shit about their situation. Your buddy knows a little bit more than shit, but he's never dealt with anything like this and he hasn't been there while all this is going on. It's laughable he thinks he knows what's going on too.

He is a nuke tech, they are trained for situations like this, multiple redundancies in a nuke plant, he called everything that happened before the press reported it.

Right now they are doing everything they can to get water on those pools. When the event blows over you will see how the SPF tanks were overlooked and overloaded with fuel rods. There main focus was shutting down the reactors after the Tsunami this is why the pools were overlooked.

Very interesting article on the lack of looting in Japan.

Japan has always fascinated me, and I would love to visit some day.

Maybe it's different once you are there, but that honest society is very appealing. I even read somewhere that stores don't put alarm tags on their products, as they simply dont get stolen. Can anyone verify this?

My thoughts go out to all those victims of this terrible tragedy. I am praying for your recovery.

Yeah it was snowing up north were they got hit hard. but not in tokyo. I went to Fukuoka a few days ago and just got back now.
I think I was a bit more worn out from all the media hype. I did have some good motsunabe while I was there...

I actually don't watch tv for the most part. I have a 50 something inch TV but cant recall ever turning it on. The news here is less sensational unless it is about a celebrity. then they go absolutely ape shit. I think in part for the western media it was a big story but for the Japanese media it was reporting a disaster if that difference makes sense. as a side note I was streaming TBS and NHK on the Japanese side and BBC and CNN on the western media side. CNN was far and away the worst.

by the way that nuclear boy video. I had a bunch of people send me that link. i loved it. I laughed so hard I think I fukushima'd in my pants. I can see it being useful for kinds in a very Japanese way.
