I have had a lot of carvin gas lately and simply need to go to San Diego to check out the different models in person.

I see the new Jason Becker numbers model is available at a decent price. Part of me thinks it's too gimmicky, and part of me wants to buy one of these. The other Jason Becker models look pretty cool as well.

The new Greg howe model looks awesome as well. Thoughts?

I'm really tempted by the Becker model - I've never played a Carvin and have always been a little wary of the direct-only approach, but some of the stuff they've been showing recently has looked awesome..

I'm in SD, and plan on visiting their store front soon. I will report back when I go there!

I've owned the first model Jason Becker and it was a fantastic well built axe!! My only complaint was the control locations... I couldn't get along with the volume knob..tucked under the Floyd bar.. The neck was a Dream!! And the price was great!!

I've not played the model in question, but I've played others. Typically great quality at a decent price - at least on the ones I've seen. The downside seems to be resale; buy it because you like it and intend to keep it. There is a limited number of Carvin buyers, and they don't seem to hold their value...

Just my perspective...

Carvins are excellent guitars. They are modern built with CNC to precise standards as many good guitars are and made in the USA. They have gotten better aesthetically as far as the shapes and designs go. Resale is low because you don't have the big endorsement cred as they don't pay people to use there stuff like everyone else. The direct sales may turn people off, but cutting out he middle man dealers means you don't have to pay as much.

The fact you can spec the neck radius 10,12,14 and all the wood options, etc they are killer deals. The only knock most people have is they only come with Carvin pickups. They have increased the pickup router area so that most aftermarket pickups fit now. But that is the only down side I see. I ordered a custom bolt back in 01. Of all my guitars, ESP, Charvel, Jackson, the Carvin is the one I pick up and play the most. In fact I just ordered a new Custom ST300.

But as far as guitars go, everyone is different and has different ideas o what works for them. SO if you are looking for a great guitar and can customize it for a great price, they should be looked into. But if you are thinking of flipping them then no.
