JB = Greatest rock pickup ever!

The Jazz, 59 or the APH all sound great with the JB. At the moment, I have an APH in the neck of my RGT with a JB in the bridge. They pair very well together.

blackba: In my Ibanez I have a trem spaced JB. In my parts strat it's a regular spaced one. I have an 80s JB, and to be honest, I don't really hear a big difference if at all. I've probably had 15 or so JBs in various guitars over the past 22 years of playing. I think that any differences in them have come down to the tolerances between individual pickups. For the most part I think they all sound similar enough to rock out with. :)

I like it, but in my Schecter 7-string, it's a little..."boring"? I'd like some more bite and aggression.
I used to have an old one that I pulled out of a Kramer Paul Dean, and I seem to remember that it was hotter/edgier.

This is from a metalhead that uses EMGs in an ESP, though. Maybe the ESPs have pussified my playing?

I have only had 3. One great one regular spaced, one ok one trem spaced, and a bad tremspaced one I bought new a few years ago (the others I got used). The good one sounded warm, buttery and full, but with plenty of mids. The bad one was harsh, thin and trebly.

I wish I still had the good one, that was a really nice pickup.

Had an old one in a Les Paul Custom that I loved. I have yet to hear a newer one that sounds good to me...it's like something changed about them after '89.
Agreed. :)

+2

Me too but I may have burned out the pot from soldering a million pickups in it. I need re evaluate the situation.

I'm not a huge fan of the JB, but the original one in my late 80's Kramer Pacer sounds good. I like the Distortion and Suhr Aldrich better.

:)

Great pickup, changed my mind on the whole Duncan/Dimarzio debate.

Then I changed to a Duncan Custom, which is even better.

I think for now then I am going to swap in my JB and when I get some cashola, I'll pick up a Duncan custom. Heard nothing but great thins about that pup.

I think in certain guitars they sound good but not all. Sounds great in my Horizon, but bad in my Charvel,so i went EMG again.

I like the RS Superpots. But I don't like 500k pots. Too bright with the JB. I prefer a low value volume pot. Like 300k. JB + 300k volume pot + lots of mids in the amp = heaven.

I may have to give it a shot. Thanks for the tip. :)

Although I may have already engaged in a custom pickup design. Maybe I should flirt around with the 300 pot to get a better perspective on my options. Either way I will have to buy both values.

500k pot + 1M resistor = ~300k pot.
