JBE vs Naked/APC ?

I asked this in another post about the new JJ100, but prob be better as a new thread:

How does the JBE channel compare to the Naked/APC? They both seem similar-thick, dark, modern,,,but i have only heard clips of the Jj. I had a Naked a few years ago,,,wish I still had.

:doh: wish i could respond to this, dave has had my naked since July :doh: . now that i have the JJ too, i can do a comparison when it comes back. tick tock tick tock,
 
Since July!? That sucks. Is that standard lead times on amp work/mods?

Nobody else has played both amps??

I haven't run across a JJ100 to hear the JBE setting but I own a Naked. So in until you get someone who has both to reply ... ;)

I agree that they are both dark and thick by design but, to me, the JJ clips sound even more saturated and gain-y. The Naked has a lot of gain but not as much as a lot of other heads I've owned, including the BE100.
 
Yup I've had both amps....Have the JJ now...Did not have them side by side but I can say for sure the JJ has more saturation and compression available , it can also do a raw type of tone on the brown eye channel.

I like both amps , I do prefer the JJ though , has more versatility I would say.
 
I have the Naked, current version, and that with an eq in the loop :shocked:. Probably get you in double J territory. It's pretty good that way.

Saturation wise, mine has the sat switch. I prefer it inactive though.

Interesting From what I have heard or read the Naked is based off of a Naylor preamp with a Marshall power section. The JJ is a tweaked BE. A different value voltage divider and maybe a couple other minor tweaks. It's not an apples to apples comparison.
 
My Naked is smooth & dark, but not strictly "modern" sounding to my ears. The EQ is awesome. Like previously stated, it doesn't have a ton of gain on tap, but it's all usable.

Very different sounding amps, the naked is much darker & more roar(y) than bite(y) like the JJ. The JJ is much more compressed than the naked as well. The JJ will get much more quiet than the Naked & also has full EQ for the clean channel where as the Naked has a simple clean section. If you are going for something very unique the Naked is a killer choice, it also helps if you aren't looking for a lot of options, if you like more options than the JJ is definitely more your thing.
 
I've had versions of both.

I had an early Marsha with JBE and an APC modded Marshall. Definitely different. The JBE is more saturated and compressed. The APC didn't have as much gain.
