Give me the good, bad, and ugly on these two. I'm an 80's guy..the dsl appeals to me because that green channel in crunch mode and that first gained red channel are my type of tone. The brootz I don't really have a need for. 6505+ I have heard some really good clips of as well. I'm going to assume the marshall has more cut and tighter bottom end and the peavey is thicker sounding. Am i on the money here? So let's put these up against each other on their crunch channels and play some whitesnake, Cinderella, and Dokken. Which do you prefer? Used they are about 100$ difference in price. Boosts I am using are a koko boost and bad monkey.Devilinside's post on his mystery amp was very convincing. My main amp now is a lightly modded jcm800 through weber legacies/greenbacks..

I prefer the DSL. The peavey is a lot spongier with more gain than you could ever use. The DSL has those Marshall mids and still plenty of gain. EL34's always win over 6l6's for me.

thanks for the input, the more I read and watch clips, i'm giving the edge to the dsl. too bad there are not more clips of the 6505+ doing straight up rock but the brootz do seem to be the trend these days. What is the loop like in the DSL? I really like my randall lynchbox but the loop is atrocious. HORRIBLE. can't use any pedals in it and there was a volume jump wen I used a gmajor2 with it.

I have a DSL100. Had a 5153 for a year or so. Have a JVM410.

The old DSL100 is hard to beat. It takes pedals so well. The crunch mode of the clean channel is great. Hit it with an OCD and it is awesome. I like the gain channel with the gain down a bit, and use the same very low gain added OCD. Gets me 4 great progressive gain channels.

I have =C= EL34's and a variety of 12AX7's across the font to tune to my taste. I got all the preamp tubes from Dave on here selling them at a bargain price.

For the money, hard to beat a DSL100 with some good glass. I admit I bought it as a wet amp. Just planning to feed it from the 5153 loop. But it sounded great. I didnt think an amp that cheap would sound so good. And as shown in some of James Lugo's amp shoot outs, my Mesa Amps sound great blended with the Marshall crunch.

It has a sweet clean channel but there is a volume drop on clean. The Marshall Amp Forum has a section on DSL mods. It is the best selling Marshall of all time for a reason.

Strong props on the DSL. Cheap and good tone for 90% of the stuff out there. And I'm not a Marshall fan for the most part. My number 1 is a Rhodes. And I'm keeping the DSL for backup and the wet amp...

I'd take the DSL too. I liked every channel a lot with the exception of Lead 2, which I thought sucked. Then again, where I'm at, you can get them used for $500 . For that price you can't beat it IMO.

I haven't owned a 6505+ but I briefly owned a 5150 which wasn't what I expected....actually I hated it   For me it was over hyped, I expected a lot more from that amp.

Any complaints with the effects loop or is it usable with pedals? I see DSL's 600-650$ mark with the higher end being with new glass. Not NOS but atleast you are getting something you can burn in and returbing a 100 watter costs over 100$. The ones I am looking at seem to be the older models too, the pre 100H model that is out now so probably early 2002-2005 models i'd suspect.

Would this be an addition to your JCM800? I could see the 6505 and 800 running at the same time.

I have the old made in UK. Tried the new one but did not like as much. Probably was due to not havi g the better glass.

Nope, would be running them independently though together would be a huge sound! I'm just now trying to figure out whether i really need another Marshall if i would essentially be playing it on a channel that would replicate my 800's crunch or a bit more. Sometimes gear is just fun to pickup and would be nice to have more gain on tap and play with hardly any boost at all from pedals.

Then, maybe the 6505? Either way, both are good choices.

Boost pedals are useful tools. I'm a fan of not using them

If you go with the DSL, make sure and use a 16 ohm cab or mod the speaker outputs. The speaker jacks are wired together weird. The ground is only on the 16 ohm jack and if it gets hung up, using the 8 ohm out will not be grounded and can cause issues. I have had it happen to me twice. I ended up doing a simple little mod by jumping the grounds to both jacks and it has been running strong for years. There is tons of info about this and other mods on the Marshall forums. All that being said, I love the 5150/6505 combo's also, they are huge sounding.

Dude get the DSL, it is so underrated and that's compared with some boutique stuff such as Friedman mods and many other high enders. The koko boost was made for the DSL so you can get extra thickness there as long as you don't over run the gain its not fizzy, much more plexi like.
You described my ideal sound which is why I also have the Friedman

The koko definitely does thicken the tone some. Like it on some amps, don't like it as much with others. Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. I am not sure if anyone answered this but how do you find the effects loop on the DSL? minimal tone suck?

I have no issues with the loop on mine. I only run an old analog delay, but it seems to work fine.

Holy shit that guy can play!

DSL eats up the 5153.. that simple. cuts through way better in that clip and the gain stays together tighter.

Black Tora?

Gotta hear more of this band. Smokin clip there.
