Hey Cats,

First up, Happy 1st Day of 2012!!! :rawk: :rawk: :rawk:

May this year bring you all good health, happiness and prosperity!! Namaste...

Anyway, had a friend drop his 50W JCM800 head over to my office yesterday to get some TLC. Sounded to me like he needed new glass and some TLC, so I took the job on. Anyway, after retubing this head, and getting 'er biased nice and sweet (EL34, 32mA), I gotsta say, this non-MV Marshall kicks some serious, serious ass!!!! Nice tone

Seems to me my ears might have changed over the course of the last, oh, 15 years. I may have to keep this amp

Peace & Love Y'All,
Mo

Funny I was just thinking about a 800 minutes before opening this forum.

Gotta say, it's got all that Marshall'esque goodness that seemingly everyone loves, and more!! At 50W, you can open 'er up to feel the juice... Thing sounded righteous through my Diezel G12K 4x12. Hmmmmmm.

Lot's of amps can get a Marshall type sound .... But there is something about the fur and roar of the old ones.

I thought all JCM800s had a MV???
Well, it's a 'one volume unit' as opposed to a 'channel volume' plus 'master volume', as found on later models of Marshalls. I've seen this referred to as non-MV as it's just 'V'

that was my understanding as well. You have Master Volume and Pre-Amp Volume.

I love the 2203's with 6650's and a Boss SD-1 in front, sweet simplicity and tons of usable metal tones at your finger tips...

Some of the early 800's had no master and 4 inputs just like the early Marshall's. You do not see a lot of them. Most had a Master...

JCM 800 is just a line of amps, just like JMP. They both include 1987, 1959 Super Leads as well as 2203 and 2204.

Yep NMV 800's are out there. I have a 800 4 holer (1959). Wicked loud, I mean really, really loud. Makes all my pedals sound their best. But it is really loud.

This.

Had to use my guitar's volume pot as even the slightest crack on the amp's volume was shudderingly loud. Was awesome

I've gone full circle and have picked up a few old jmp's and jcm 800 2203's And there's something to be said for these amps  . They are killer! some will be modded some will remain stock. If you want that modded marshall sound then just pick one up and have it modded. Thats the best way to get that sound.

Seemingly pretty cheap, too.

Ventura, where do you live? anywhere near Seattle? Do you work on amps for a living? Always looking for a good amp tech.

I don't work on 'em for a living, but it seems I'm getting more an more 'work' coming through my house every month... I'm not a true tech, just a gearwhore with a penchant for details and technical understanding. I'm up in Whistler, so not too far!! Lemme know what ya need - PM is fine.

Peace
