Jeff Healy & SRV were the last time i was interested in the Blues.

It's true talent, unfortunately I never got the chance to see either one live. I have videos and enjoy them every time I watch them.

You know what the taproot of the blues juggernaut you're tangled up in is Sambo??

You're still bummin' on the fact John Mayer
'stabbed out', those herds of Hollywood hotties..
That's merit enough for any man to get the blues.
And from the sound and look of 'it',
Bob Weir..he don't like you John.

John Mayer blows like the wind. All ego, not much else.
He sings in some sort of strange character voice and not as himself.
I remember when some were calling him "the next SRV". GTFO

The next SRV? Ya, not even close… While he has his thing and we all go to a day job. It’s just not my thing.

I view Mayer as more in line with Clapton than SRV.
Considering EC can't play anymore because of medical problems and Stevie is gone that leaves a vacuum.
Mayer/KW Sheppard/Joe B. ect each with their own talents but from different era's.

Agreed.

Check out Marcus King. Very cool young dude that can sing and play.

those you mentioned can all play great and have my respect as blues musicians.

i’d add:
1) johnny lang. i can’t think of any other white blues guy who can sing more authentically like an old black blues guy than this dude. and that is more important *to me* for believable blues than the playing. the rest tend to sound like white guys trying to imitate black vocalists.

2) eric gales. just a hammer and the best guitar player on this list. but his vocals don’t float my boat

3) phillip sayce. plays like srv meets gary moore. great overall performer who throws his heart on the stage every show. great tone!

What I meant was that Mayer, like Clapton, infuses blues based guitar in the context of a pop song.
