My 1989 JEM77FP. Honestly, one of the best playing guitars I have ever owned.

  That was it! I bought it brand new off the rack. I was pretty young at the time (teenager) and had saved up the money from gigging so it was a big deal to me. I wasn't a fan of the tones and sustain it produced, but it did play well. Anyways, to each their own, I guess. ;) Look at my sig - I'm all about the "classics" at this point - Gibson, Fender and Gretsch. I don't have a single guitar with a Floyd/locking trem on it.

P.S. It IS a sexy guitar. :inlove:

Yup, me too, I bought it from a GC. I had just turned 17 and it was my first "expensive" guitar. Possibly why it holds so much nostalgia with me, many a teenage gig was played with this guitar.

See, I really like Basswood bodies and almost ALL of my guitars have a locking trem. Not because I'm a whammy guy (actually I rarely have the trem bar in them), but because of the reliability of tuning and feel under my palm for muting. All that probably comes from the hours and hours and hours of playing this particular guitar.

Yes, she is a little hottie.

All of my Strats are set up so the trem rests against the guitar and will not move. I hate having unison and other bends go out of pitch (i.e., detune) when I bend the strings.

Amazing to me that anyone who has spent any time playing a jem can rag on it. Yeah , I know... you guys love Gibson, Fender, PRS, ... fine: all are great if that's what you like. Jems have awesome necks & sound great. I have 3 & would like to have more. My .02

As I said, to each their own. Opinions and preferences change over time as well. I used to play super strat guitars when I was in my teens and early twenties. Nowadays, I could not get along with a JEM, or most super strat necks at all, as they are too narrow for my current tastes. I also don't like trems. Therefore, at this point in my life, the JEM is a non-starter for me. That doesn't mean it's a bad guitar, it's just not my thing.

I didn't mean to "rag" on them either, if that's how it came across. Given the choice between a Boogie Mark and a JEM though, at this time I would take the Boogie. I also think the OP will have an easier time getting his money out of the Boogie. JEMS are not easy guitars to sell locally in Canada.

Update:

Guy is now considering adding 200$ on top of the Jem for the MKV

I am really not a big fan of Steve Vai's music but have to say my JEM is one of the best guitars I have and spent many many hours on it. However I have tried multiple ones that felt and where finished like crap (compared to the price)!! I wouldn't not do this exchange without trying and inspecting the guitar, especially since it had multiple owner and was played at concerts. Also, as with all locking tremolo equipped guitars its a pain to setup...

And rlord1974 the JEM you had is in my own opinion the best one they ever made, the "cloth" with the floral designs under the finish makes it for some reason sound a like beast!!! I've been looking at those on ebay lately...

Is that a Transformers sticker on the JEM, David? WTF?!

Plus, what are all of those random consonants and vowels in the Kijiji listing?.....

:D

He says the sticker is a "static" (whatever that is) and won't leave any glue or damage on the paint

Power Ranger?!
It's the friggin' Decepticons!

And I thought you knew enough Portuguese to understand the add

Static is one of those words with very different meanings in French and English.

In English, it means "lacking in movement, action, or change, especially in an undesirable or uninteresting way."

In French, it means "I'm about to fuck you over on this transaction."

I caught it! ;)

And, btw, I think this seller is a member of the "Decepticons" and you are about to be the victim of deceit.

haha ;) Well a "static sticker" doesn't mean anything in french either but he's french canadian so maybe they used it differently... But if it was that easy to remove why did he leave it on for the picture?

Sticker would have to come off before the guitar got in my hands, of course ;)

And what makes you think the seller is such an evildoer?

OK, let's get back to Business (pardon the pun).

He is asking $2,000 for the JEM. I'm guessing you're asking around $1,700 for the MKV? And he is now offering to throw in $200 on top of the guitar to get the deal done?

So, what's wrong with the guitar? Why is he so desperate to move it?

I think the guy wants an amp
Guitar looks legit from the pictures
Some people don't care about losing a bit as long as they get what they want

Don't know what is so amazing about it. People have their own taste. I think many of the Jems play great, but most of them do sound like shit to me. You obviously have a different opinion and that's fine. But, don't think you know me...I don't own any of those brands.
