I have a chance to pick one of these up..I'm on a Dream Theater trip these days so I need another 7 string.
Anyways, I'm wondering about the pickups..Dimarzio Blaze. I have not tried the guitar and won't until Wednesday so I've read on the dimarzio site how they took the mids out of this pup...this to me doesn't sound like a good thing.
Anyone have or tried this guitar or the pups?? I see they have the Blaze Custom that have the mids put back in...but its not in this guitar. Anyone?

The Blaze isn't too bad. It's got mids, but they're more low mids. I prefer the Blaze Custom, but YMMV. The neck pickup is a nice, hot PAF Pro-kinda sound. I prefer the AN7/Evo7 the most, but that's me. I haven't tried the new JP pickups,though.

I've owned 2 UV777's. The pups are not my cup of tea, but that's generally an easy fix. Great guitars.

I'm pretty sure that the Blaze is essentially a 7 pole PAF Pro. I haven't played a Universe since the early 90's...I don't recall how it sounded tonally as I was just fascinated with the growl coming from that low B string.
