I've got a friend looking to pick up a tube combo at a low price. Based on his specs I've narrowed it down to these two combo amps.

Watcha think?

My experience with the alchemist is limited, but I wasn't all that impressed, especially for the price. Jet city on the other hand.... at the price/tone/quality scale it is pretty hard to beat

That's what struck me about the Jet City...price/tone/quality...$799 for the 2x12 50 watt.

Is the Jet City 2x12 combo even available yet. This is one of the amps that I've been considering. I played an Alchemist last week and the store, and I didn't like it at all.

I've been bouncing around these possibilities:

JCA5212 combo
Egnater Renegade
Traynor YCS combo
Blackstar 40 or 60 combo

I don't know if it's available yet or not. I see it on the Jet City website buy not at any of the usual web sales sites like GC/Musiciansfriend/AMS and so on. I did find it here, BUT, Its backordered: http://www.sabaturproaudio.com/Jet-City-Amps-JCA5212RC-50-Watt-2X12-All-Tube-Combo-Amp_p_3755.html

I say Jet City.. Not just because I own one (JCA100H), but because I think your going to get a more raw tube tone out of it.. The JCA50RC has a clean and a crunch channel, so it's not going to get as brutal as the head versions which have the OD channel, but it can be boosted..

Interesting, a combo that's not even available yet is beating out a Bogner.

There are plenty of versions of the amp out, just not that particular combo one yet. The tones are out there and amazing

I have the Alchemist 2x12 combo.

I love the amp. Needs to be pretty loud to sound great, IMO. Dime the mids...that is all.

JCA5212RC will be in production at the end of this month (May)! And then we will produce larger quantities in the second run in June. Hope this helps the decision process...

The Bogner Alchemist is a weird amp. It's great under certain circumstances - such as when you dime it, as pointed out - but as a balanced amp, it can be really harsh to play on.

I've only tested the 20 watt head version from Jet City and, for the price, it's unmatched. Simple and raunchy. So, from what I've just said, I'd go for the Jet City out of those two.

Played Bogners and own a soldano. i don't own a bogner so that says it all. i guess even though its not a full fat, im going with the JCA

Yes, Jet City's raunchy rock tones are unsurpassed...
