Hey guys,

I was thinking of getting a quad of JJ EL34 II's for my VH4. I was wondering if anyone had experience with these tubes and could chime in. Any input would be appreciated!

I don't recall the technical difference between the regular and the II, but I seem to recall a thread on this here some time ago. Most people noted they preferred the regular version or the E34L. But someone please correct me if I'm remembering that wrong.

They are cool tubes. To me they have a little more bounce to them, but still sound like a JJ. I still prefer the EL34 over the E34L and EL34II.

Thanks!

The EL-34II seems to be lacking just the slightest bit of high end “sparkle” when compared to the standard EL-34. Still sounds good, but just a tiny bit duller. Nice playing.

Ive had them in a Marshall 1959 SLP for over a year.
They are good tubes, sound the same as the regular JJ's I had in there before.

Honestly, after a while they all sound the same.

I thought exactly the opposite.

Hmm, now I’m down to deciding wether I want EL34 II or EL34L for my VH4 (getting a matched set of kt77s too for rotation)

Supposed to be fuller and warmer with a low-mid emphasis.

My go-to in an EL34 is, and always will be the KT77. More chunk.

Thanks for the input. I'm getting a KT77 also to put into the rotation, but this is my first tube amp so i'm going through some honeymoon phase GASing (The WORST kind for my wallet). Further, i'm simply fascinated by the whole tube thing so I just want to get a feel for how different tubes sound.

I'm trying to decide wether I want to get the EL34L or EL34 II- perhaps I should opt for something markedly different than a KT77,

Did it come with KT77's? I think Diezel has used them in manufacturing for some models?

I’ve had VH4’s with el34 and Kt77’s. I vastly preferred the el34’s. That amp has enough bottom end as it is. Ruby el34bstr are phenomenal in a VH4.

Hmm...thanks for the input. Would you happen to know how a JJ EL34L or JJ EL34II would compare in a VH4?

I put EL34Ls in my Street Rod as a recommendation from Eurotubes to add a little more bottom and it seems too do that. I havent tried the II's but now I will!

Me too. I haven't a/b'd the regular EL34 and the II, but I hear more sparkle in this clip as well.

I have the II's in an amp right now and really like them. This may sound sacrilegious :D , but I actually prefer them over =c='s in this particular amp.

Overall, they're not as juicy & sweet as some other El34's, but they still have good bounce and hold together well under volume & high gain. They also don't seem to get as squishy, so they have a slightly harder attack.

Agreed! I also prefer them over the winged =C= tubes, easily.
I have really never understood the hype about the winged =C= tubes…
I have four quads of them but I much prefer most anything else...

I had a pair and one burned up within a month of bedroom/recording. Never bothered to get more. I preferred them over my Tung-Sols.
