Joe Holmes is a bad ass guitarist and is tone is monstrous.   I am glad I had a chance to see him with Ozzy a few times. Too bad he did not continue and record with Ozzy!!

I saw him with Ozzy.....amazing live tone and playing.

I saw this tour and at least 2-3 other shows. I always went after the first tour just to hear Joe kick ass on the guitar.

Ozzy launched the careers of quite a few guitarists over the years.

Saw that tour as well.. I remember being a bit disappointed that it was not ZW playing but after seeing Zakk play a few years later, I realized which one was the better show. Holmes all the way. Way less pick squeals and neck slides and chorus. My one gripe is that his strats with maple fretboards just have too much of a weird mid range thing going on for the Ozzy sound. The guitar in the videos posted above reminds me a bit of one of the strats i have. That annoying mid range bump can leave your highs anemic and your lows too rounded.

Yea I saw ozzy with joe too I love the mr crowlet performance but there are some odd squeals that kinda sound out of key a little just a couple besides that KILLER!
-mp-
But as we all know no one play them like randy!

I disagree completely. One of the best live tones I have ever heard. Monstrous.

Agreed..the only other tone I have heard that is as good is Sykes Jose modded Marshall..Honestly either tone is simply awesome. For me anyway.

Well then have I got a strat for you guys!! ...... is Holmes a JB user? I know we've discussed this before, I can't remember. I do remember that he isn't a booootique snob .. am i right?

I remember that tour. I was really looking forward to seeing Zakk, as I was really into his playing at the time. I was sorta bummed when Joe came out on stage. It's not that he sucked or anything, it was just that I was sooooo looking forward to seeing Zakk. Even more so than Ozzy.

I was disappointed because I'd heard that Zakk wasn't playing, but as soon as I heard the first note from Joe, I was like, "WHOA!!!!!" The sound of his guitar was incredible - everything I ever wanted to hear from a live guitar tone. And his playing was off the charts - by far the best of the Ozzy guitarists at covering the Randy stuff... I went from being bummed out that it wasn't going to be Zakk playing to thinking "Zakk who?" in about 5 minutes...

Ditto

As I've said in the past, he had one of the worst live tones/performances that I've ever seen on a big stage (State College, PA '96). Enough guys whose opinions I respect feel otherwise so I'll chalk it up to having caught him on a bad night (although those clips in the OP aren't doing anything to change my mind).

There should be a rule about a guy's chest having to be bigger than his waste to go shirtless on stage ;)

i saw that tour too in late 95, Ozzy was killer and Joe Holmes was really on it, Fear Factory supported, good times :)
