I really don't get the hatred for Coldplay. I think they are a decent band who writes some good songs. Is the reason because they don't have blazing solos and super heavy distortion?

I think where coldplay is kind of screwed is not just that the chord progression sounds the same it's that the places where joe is playing his lead over it are the same as where coldplay put the vocals. There vocals match up to the lead part of Joe's song. Yeah, that could be a coincidence but I think they will have to pay up for that.

They don't match up at all. Did you listen to the entire songs and not just this video? The parts that are similiar are the verse from the Coldplay song and the chorus from the Satch song. So they are not arranged in a similiar way at all.

I'll be honest with you, I have probably heard 2 Satch songs in my life....Summer Song and Surfin with the Alien. I recognize he's a killer guitarist but it's totally not my thing. I actually like some of Coldplay's stuff. Less of their radio singles, but I think they have some good songwriting and production, especially on the their latest cd.

I cannot stand Coldplay. And I know Satch is a great guy by one degree of separation. I want nothing more than to believe that Satch was ripped off.

But I just don't hear it. Coldplay deserves to win about as much as the Jonas Brothers deserved to play with Stevie Wonder. But they didn't rip Satch off.

Those simultaneous clips are misleading, IMO. BTW when I first heard Satch Boogie's intro, I thought it was the The Hop from Aerosmith's Done with Mirrors...there's about as much similarity as Satch/Coldplay..

I like Clocks, very good song. The only reason I would like to see Satch maybe win is that it would be one of the good guys with a small label take on Clear Channel and the suits.

There's an old Rainbow song, i forgot the name of it. But it sounded as if Mr.Big completely lifted the song, changed the lyrics and added the solos, and came up with Addicted To That Rush. I mean, it's a million times more similiar than the Satch/Coldplay debate. I remember my freind played it for me and then i assumed that Addicted To That Rush was just a cover song, but i think the Rainbow song is called something else.

Maybe 70'strathead, Anthony, will know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's just hard for me to see it as a "big shark vs little fish" when he's got countless lawyers working for him following them around trying to sue them. And it's not like he's really all that small of a fish either, countless endorsement deals from multinational companies....

Whether it was intentional or not, I think the melody sounds the same.
I would say they owe Satch some money.

Just my opinion.

The video where they lay the songs on top of each other is pretty damn compelling, and I can't imagine a jury not hearing the blatant similarity.

This is the most likely outcome. Most of these types of things end up settled out of court for pennies on the dollar. Low 5 figures. Joe needs some dough is what it sounds like to me. I don't feel one way or the other about either artist but pop music in general is derivative of something. Hell most R&B/Rap artists sample the actual song. As long as everyone gets paid no biggie.

I love Coldplay, I think they're a great band and do what they do very well. There's a billion bands out there that are doing and have done the wanking shredding guitar schtick with cheeze pop lyrics. I'm glad there's a band out there like Coldplay to offer something other than the '80s cheeze or the '90/'00s nu metal/rock KROQ sound and that's actually a GOOD band. Chris Martin is actually a quality song writer. But of course, my taste in music is diverse and goes beyond Dokken and Ratt.

I think this whole Satch thing is coincidental. I doubt they were sitting around one day listening to Satch wank and said "you know what? FUCK IT LET'S RIP HIM OFF!!"
