they must have designed the new harmony central site.

That solo he did on Kalifornication was one of the worst sounding excuses for a solo I've heard. I actually just can't stand the Chili Peppers though.

I liked his guitar work on Blood Sugar Sex Magik, but I think all the heroin he took after that fucked his mind up. I haven't been impressed with much of his work since then.

I think he's awesome... I do. Definitely not the BEST in 30 years or any years for that matter, as "the best" is a very subjective thing - as in, where would Rhoads be in there, Zappa, Segovia, Vai, yada yada... But as for versatility, dynamic tone, individuality, and so forth, he's definitely one of my fave players. He may not be the technical virtuoso some of us want to see rated as "the best", but damn if that cat can't play anything, anytime, anywhere - and for this, most definitely, hats off to Frusciante!! He can channel Page, Hendrix, SRV, and a host of other ethereal guitarists...not to mention, himself. Ace, IMHO!!

Comparatively, there isn't anything Fruciante can do that Petrucci can't do better, then go even farther, and I don't think any of us are suggesting JP is the best guitarist of the last 30 years.

You don't think Satriani, Gilbert, Bonnamassa, Paisley could cover every RHCP song?

Fo' sure they could and can... But what I think is missing in a lot of virtuoso playing is "style and soul"... JF's got bags of that man, whereas some of the others are just really surgical and clinical and technically outstanding, but they lack the slop and grease that truly soulful players offer.

Again, JUST my humble opinion

PS - and it's not about recreating his playing, it's about the fact he created that song and that solo - and that's where the talent lies...

Hipsters just need to stop making lists. Actually, come to think of it, hipsters just need to kill themselves in large quantities.

Um, wow.

I mean, there have been a lot of good players in the last 30 years, and I'm not just talking shredders.

Brian Setzer
Johnny Marr
Dimebag Darrell
Marty Friedman
Shawn Lane
Buckethead
Vito Bratta
Warren D
George Lynch
EVH?
Vai
Satch
Malmsteen
Eric Johnson
Zappa
Schon
Lukather
Andy Timmons
Paul Gilbert
John 5
Bumblefoot
Danny Gatton
Mark Knopfler
The Edge?

I can't even wrap my head around JF being in the top 100 players of the last 30 years.

Look at the polll that website did and who people could vote for; John Frusciante, Slash, Matt Bellamy, Johnny Marr, and Tom Morello.

You nailed it. You could say he was at least talented at one time but he fried his brain so bad that he can't even play anymore. His playing lately sounds like a 14 year old kid that has smoked too much pot.

Its clear to me that a woman has put that poll together.

Relax though guys, its only someone's opinion.
