Goes to show guys, forget wasting money on good tone just use a Pod, play simple chords, make noises that sound different from anybody else.
Talent really doesn't matter, it's all about what band you're in.
What's funny is that Morello was actually quite the shreddy player at one point (e.g., a lot of guys around here would have been impressed). He ditched all that to sound different, and well.... he's certainly achieved that...
Comparatively, there isn't anything Fruciante can do that Petrucci can't do better, then go even farther, and I don't think any of us are suggesting JP is the best guitarist of the last 30 years.
You don't think Satriani, Gilbert, Bonnamassa, Paisley could cover every RHCP song?
As if Petrucci would sound any good playing that style. Gilbert too. The players you mentioned are awesome at what they do but that doesn't make them a master of all trades. Not that I think Frusciante is particularly amazing since BSSM.
So true about that metal player comment too. I love how metal is seen as the toughest genre to play and so any good metal player can play all "inferior" styles by default.
Passing off JP,Gilbert or Satriani as metal players is ridiculous...
Sorry, they are in a league of their own. Frusciante can be proud of the four or so records he recorded with the Peppers but he's just a kid compared to the likes of a Satriani, a Vai or a Guthrie. And that's coming from someone who likes Frusciante.
