He used a 150 watt 2C+ on that record, but what about the speakers?

I am not sure what cabs that he used on which album but I do know that he has used Greenbacks and the mesa black shadow speakers(MC90) and possibly the EV's.

He may have used the old Mesa metal grill 4x12 loaded with EV 200 watters, that's what his tone kinda sounded like to me. And I believe the Coliseum 150 watt amp he used was a Mark III.

John's Mesa Coliseums (180 watts) are Mark III's--not IIC+'s. He used Mesa metal grill half back cabs with the Coliseums with Black Shadow Celestions on top and EV's on the bottom with the mic usually in front of the EV's.

The Black Shadow is the one that's similar to the CL80, am i right?

Thanks Olaf. I hear it as the MC90's highend peak is shifted a bit lower.

Yup, it is.
Not sure if both speakers were equally "abused" though. The CL80 wasn't that old when I recorded that clip.
There's also a V30 vs MC90 with a Boogie (Mark IV I think) somewhere on YT . . .

very nice test, thanks.

I've got some MC90 speakers and 200 watt EV speakers that I'm testing out with my MarkIV. I'm trying to see which one gives the best "searing crunch".
