Jose Arredondo modded Marshall on eBay

Well, it's a modded Marshall that he thinks (hopes) is Jose modded. Doesn't look like there's any way to back up the claim. He says a famous guy owns or owned it, but does not say that this famous guy will represent that it's Jose modded or who this famous guy is.

Easily could just be a hacked up '68 Marshall Major.

Agreed...not much proof. I sent it to Fortin for his opinion as I know he owns a few...

I'm curious what those huge filter-cap-looking things are.

It's a Marshall Major. Different design than regular Marshall Super Lead/Bass amps. Much more power. They can be pretty unstable with the wrong mods. Google it for mind blowing pics. Haha

Yeah, I just havent see those caps on a stock Major. So they were added for safety/stability? I've heard that the Major circuit can actually be damaged just using an OD pedal into the input if the amp is turned up too loud.

I asked for gut shots, so we'll see. I don't see the insert loops on the back...

Response:

"Steve I can appreciate your enthusiasm but I will not send internal shots to anybody at this point in time. I will be glad to send you clips and pictures of anything externally but I repeat nobody is going to get internal shots of this amplifier if they want to purchase the amplifier and verify it that's fine but I don't know you from Adam and I've had people copy schematics of other amplifiers I've sent off before. The component use their time correct for what Jose was doing at that point in time."

Uh huh...

Steve

Scam. If he's not willing to post gut shots...he's got no reason not to. He's not protecting anyone..Jose's been dead for a few years.

This reminds me of that Blue mod/blue rev amp thread that went nuts-ass wild couple years back. It was before my time, but I've read it...some good material in that thread. ;)

Who in their right mind would spend that kind of money on an amp that this dude can't even verify is a real Jose. And even if it is doesn't mean it sounds good. Oh well, it'll never sell.

Here is what I wrote in answer to his response:

"OK... but, respectfully, why would someone pay the price you are asking, which is based on Jose's name, for an amp that can't be verified?

I don't need to copy amps. I have owned original Jose's and I have my own line of amps that are influenced by what Jose was doing:

http://henningamps.com

I've attached 5 pics of a legitimate, unmolested, original Jose mod I know he did. Does yours look like this internally? For example does it have the push/pull DPDT 1M pots that Jose used that are now impossible to find (first picture)? If so, that is a telltale sign yours is legit. Yours also does not have the insert loop on the back, which Jose included in most mods (look at pic 3).

As I said, I'm not trying to rip anyone off. I could build an exact, original Jose mod if I wanted to and could find some of those 1M DPDT pots I mentioned. I am interested in amps like this from a historical collector's perspective and that is why I buy them...

Still interested in seeing whether this is legit..."

No response, of course...

Steve

funny

he hasnt done any homework whatsoever. Every amp maker out there has a version of the jose amp.

Very Nice Steve... that's awesome. Hopefully the seller mans up and comes clean if it's not legit.... or shows the proper identification and marks that is in fact a true original Jose mod. Im sure no one on here would buy it regardless now anyways... just hope some 'outside' chap doesn't lose thousands on an amp when he may not know any better. Of course we don't know the authentication of it yet..... but honestly, anyone familiar with gear or the history of it would have and 'want' to show and verify. Anyone can find a Jose schematic these days anyways... Open it up and get some pics of the guts. Cheers Steve

Got two more responses from the guy:

"I can appreciate what you're saying but the gentleman that I talk to all have the same opinion that Jose was a TV repair guy and never did the same thing twice that's why have his amp sounded like shit and some of them sounded amazing. He learned things as he went on that being said, it is an orange Mass of older unavailable sprague caps. I'm selling the app for what it is a modded major that sounds amazing. Text n I'll send a video of the amp"

Not exactly. He did different things, but there are commonalities that would indicate whether he modded it or not...

"Steve I'm not going to lie I don't know you from Adam and you seem like a very knowledgeable guy mine looks nothing like that. My problem is this, not only do I own a Jose model damp my app is Mick Mars is all damp when he was playing the girls girls girls album. I've had this verified by three people including make himself who told me that he let that going to pawn shop when he was run out of money. I trust the judgment of the people I deal with both my amplifier tech"

Ummm.... WHAT???

His English is getting worse as this thread progresses...lol.... Or he's further into the 'medicine' and the brain to fingers circuit is shorting out. :D
