Here's a solo lesson I did for a young guy on YT. He is playing the song for a school assembly and needed a hand with the fast part in the solo. He's in grade 5.
I wish I knew what a guitar was in grade 5. I didn't pick one up until I was 17

Great job, as usual.

REALLY cool of you to help out the young kid with some technique and Schon knowledge, too.

A++

:thumbsup:

never heard of the song but it sounds a bit like a Bob Marley tune I know.

Hey Mark, nice work on this solo. I find Neal Schon's stuff SO hard to play! I mean the melodic stuff isn't too bad, but you have to have the feel for it. It's his speedy stuff that is just so unique to him. I've been working on the Anyway You Want it solo lately and some of those licks are killer. BTW you do a nice job of that one on your channel.

Anyways NS is one of the greatest guitarists around IMHO, he's got it all, melody, feel, insane vibrato and crazy speed! Highly under rated I think.
cheers brother

Thanks bartzzz!! I'm sure it's not note for note but it's in the ballpark. I love your vids and wish I could get as close as you do on the note for note stuff. You have a great ear and great technique!!!

Very cool, Mark! How kind of you to help him out with his school performance!

Last week, we had our talent show at the elementary school where I teach. Two of my kiddos from our school guitar club performed. The boys don't have much gear, so for one guy I hooked him up with my '79 2203 Friedman KS and '77 4x12 cab. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication with the other teacher I do the club with, and he didn't bring his rig for the other boy to play through. I rushed home right before the show and grabbed my '69 JMP50 (w/ a small 1x12 cab) for the other boy--thinking it was going to be a cool experience for him to play through a golden-era amp--but it stopped working halfway through their act...and we didn't have a backup. :/

After the show, he told me: I'm NEVER buying that amplifier brand! Marshall stinks!! Poor guy. :doh:

Mark

When you were 17, the electric guitar wasnt even invented yet, so please dont mislead the nice people on this forum.

O yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Great stuff as usual Mark! I can tell you would make a great guitar teacher. I wouldn't have the patience.

Mark I always enjoy your posts and videos. The journey tab book I have is atrocious when it comes to Schon's leads. I do this song in a cover band and had it mimicked pretty well but your interpretation is better because it generally does not leave a single hand position. Schon's lines can get a bit blurry especially his unorthodox pentatonic stuff. I really like what you did here,

Thanks and I must now go play this over a few hundred times to reprogram my finger memory.
