Just played the JP2C with my LP and a Thiel Cab and it sounds great. Clean, crunch, lead all right there. I played it over two hours. I did not really turn it up because they were doing lessons there. But sounded great at medium volumes. I got a little short of band volume.
The clean just stays super clean no matter how you set it. Even maxed it was just getting very mild distortion.
The two lead channels are voiced crunch and more creamy. Great having separate GEQ for each channel. The pull on gain gives more fur. The pull on the presence adds a almost English crunch. The voicing switch also adds harmonics. The voice is not the one from the Mark V. I thought it sounded great.... and yes it thumps.I would have no problem doing a gig with this amp. Being able to switch between no EQ and mild scoop and full scoop was more useful than I imagined. Way more usable live than a II/III/IV for my taste.

Good news! I've read I think 3 reviews, and all three have been positive. Heck of an amp for 2500!

I am sure the amp is great but need to know if it sounds and feels true. I have a couple of other great amps.

I would just go ahead and assume it's not going to de-throne what you have (if you still have what I think you have).

GAS is a muther. Still the same. I added a Mark III no strip with a 105 PT. DRG long head. Mike B has it now for a ++ mod along with some other stuff. Amp sounded great aside from an extremely important 80 hz eq slider not working. I'm thinking I'll see how good it is when I get it back and decide if the JPC is worth the extra over selling the III.

Where? Seattle Guitar Center? I might be heading up to Seattle today.

GC hasn't carried Boogie in a few years now.

  big brain fart. Totally forgot about that.

A Sharp in Renton. Someone put money on it a few weeks ago and going to pay it off and pick it up Monday. They are getting more next week.

........

It's going to be about taste if you like it more or less than other amps. I'm not selling my IV yet and want to have both.

It was very easy to set up for me. I felt it was easier to learn than most amps. Might have to do with always having a Mark around for 34 years. But felt right at home with it. I'm not really a Dream Theater fan. I don't know how to play any of the material. I was doing more Tool, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Early Aerosmith, Rolling Stones....I had no problem getting jazz, country, funk, R&B out of it also. Besides my Les Paul with a JB.... I plugged in several other pretty different guitars and all worked equally as good for me. I had no problem getting a good sound at low volumes. I was getting sound out of it I have never heard from any amp. The big transformer gives a big voice. The clean channel sounded great and if you like the lead channel on a Mark amp your going to like what this amp can do. I found it way easier to control than any of the previous Mark amps from the II thru the V. What I am saying here is not blowing wind up your dress - honeymoon nonsense..... I truly feel this is a great amp. Beyond my personal expectations.

Your MK3 is gonna be cool, no doubt. But let's say it this way..a 2C compared to my experience with a 3 is like a 'good' Marshall with a boost compared to your Wizard. Cool tone but the Wizard leaves it behind. I had 2 MK3s, a purple that had been recently serviced and a Red. Both Simulclass. Again, nice amps but when I got my 2C it all made sense.

Did any of the III's have the 105? I think the earliest III's were different. Not sure how besides what I read about the different stripes.

Sounds like a great amp. Are you going to get one? Have you played an original C+?

The one you have has a 2C transformer. The red stripe I had was closest in the preamp section. The Blue stripe has the closest power section, although without the transformer that you have. All the Mk3s have some claim to a Mk2C+ lineage/relation. Funny thing though, the purple stripe kicked the Red to the curb for me. And the purple has none of the 2C+ lineage/similarity claims. My experience is what it is...neither Mk3 wowed me like the 2C+ I have now. They were decent, good amps. But 2C+ is a step up. Yours might be a killer machine when you get it back....interested to know your thoughts. They usually are quick....mine was 2-1/2 weeks from shipping it till it was back.

I think each amp is different in some way like the older Marshalls. Some are ok, some so so , and some are excellent. The seller of this one put it next to his blue stripe and sold teh blue. Funny thing is I am sure the eq slider did not work on this one and that slider is important.
Not to derail the OP's thread. It's still Mesa. Still waiting for someone who has compared an original. I expect a few earlier ones to come up for sale.

Who will be the first to send in their JP2 for the ++ mod?  :D

More like a "pull deep" mod. Seems like it's missing from the amp?

I never used the pull deep when I owned my IIC+. Too woofy

The "Pull Deep" is hardwired on, along with all the other pull knobs except "Pull Shift" on the bass. I never use the "Pull Deep" on my others, so I'm learning to adjust around it.

It's been an interesting first few hours with it. I'll reserve my opinions publicly until I've spent more time with it, but so far I'm digging it.
