Damn glad he is not fighting some $3000 marshall rip-off and playing with some gain but holy shit the amount of phaser is nuts

Seems to have some attitude though, can't complain about that.

Ya know you're my boy Digi, but I wish I could understand why you continue to slag "$3000 marshall rip-offs". It is a recurring theme with you and a relatively high proportion of your posts exhibit this. Why do you care and why not let the market decide what it wants to buy?

The way I see it there are two types of "3K Marshall rip-offs" (to use your term):

Example 1 - Metropolous hand-built, turret board replicas of classic marshals (and similar things by others) that are nearly $3K
Example 2 - A wide variety of hand-built turret board Marshall-based amps that are modded from the original circuits in some way - adding gain stages or using clipping techniques to add gain and sustain to the stock Marshall circuit. These cost anywhere from $2500 to $3K....

I don't get what is wrong with either of these things. If you don't like it, don't buy it, but why the vitriol?

So, is your problem that you could get a stock marshall and either have it modded, or mod it yourself for less money? It seems to me that some folks mods command just as much because they are hard to come by... And some people don't have the ability to mod a Marshall themselves and some would prefer a completely new build that is not offered by Marshall. Do you know what it costs a small builder to build these amps in relatively small numbers and what they need to charge for them to make enough profit to stay in business? I do, and it seems to me the prices are not out of line...

What's interesting is I never hear you complaining about "3K strat rip-offs" by Suhr, Anderson... Surely these blatant rip-offs should be worthy of your scorn, no? You seem to reserve your contempt for people building Marshall-type amps, like the board owner.

I just don't get it - you basically take any opportunity to slag Brad's Cameron stuff. I especially noted your subtle jab when he posted the pictures of the orange Atomica - "Yes, stock Marshall head cabs look nice in Orange", or something like that - that constant poking is what I mean. You bag on people for "ripping off" circuits that are public domain, unpatentable and basically can be used by anyone who wants to. It's pretty tiring... What are you trying to get across to the community here?

I suppose you'll just tell me to skip your posts if I don't like 'em, and that is fine, but I thought I'd point out the way you're coming off for you to consider... or not... :)

Steve

They must have added most of his effects at the board. I was standing about 15' directly in front of him during the above performance and heard mostly dry amp tone.

It would take forever to type it out Steve but at the end you would understand where I was coming from, not saying that we would be eye to eye but you would understand.

Few quick answers though,

Metro: I have zero issues with George's metro products because he is up front saying they ARE indeed marshall clones, no bullshit but a very good product.

Yes I am not a huge fan of Brad's business model concerning cameron and will always say that he should have re-named the line to save everyone here the drama. BUT honestly Brad was NOT on my mind when I posted this thread, you can believe what you may.

Suhr and T/A clones: Yes they make strat looking guitars BUT John has legal rights from Fender to do so, not positive about T/A. Anyways I have zero interest in either maker in regards to strat clones so that is probably why you have not seen me speak of that.

Ripping off circuits: Again Brad is not on my mind when I speak of ripping off circuits, I understand that he pretty much bought Mark's work so how would that be ripping off?

I understand where you think I am railing Brad when I post that but that is far from the truth. The truth is that this forum has some of the biggest douche bags around that bought every modder's products, ripped them apart, and now sell "their own mod"....................THAT is the beginning of the $3000 marshall clone I speak of. Members here were SO smart they left their Photo-Bucket accounts open that showed "X" amp's guts and then a clone of it from another builder that posts here. I post once about seeing someone's photobucket being open and yes it was locked down later that day.

I can only tell you what I am thinking and you can come to your own conclusion but the fact is that Brad is not on my mind when I say $3000 marshall clone. He bought the rights to the name. Yeah I still do not agree with the Atomica name though

If you want to chat about this further let me know and no I do not have any hard feeling towards you for the post, you are still one of my favorite forum members here with great taste in Mission style furniture and hardwood floors.

We lost Don Barzini, and got "Acerbic Digi" :D

By the way, if that's supposed to be George on juice, he needs to get his money back.

Who are these people? Are you sure they didn't start with these other builder's mods and then tweak them to their own taste and flavor? What proof do you have that they are taking identical mods and re-selling them. And how do you know where the original modders got them in the first place? Also, how is that different than if the original modders started with a stock Marshall and tweaked it? I dunno man - as I said, all of these circuits and mods are out there - public domain, unpatentable and basically can be used by anyone who wants to. I'm sorry, but there are no real "secrets" to hide anymore. Anyone who wants the information can get it by searching forums, even without buying and copying someone else's mod.

And if you are talking about Jerry and the Mod 5 thing - the complete spec for that was developed with lots of help/input from forum members over at Metro, is basically a small preamp and filtering change and a PPIMV and had been publicly posted at Metro forever... All of these things have been done before in other amps and there is no invention or rocket science here in my mind. Wouldn't see why Jerry couldn't do that mod for folks, although using the term "Mod 5" in reference to it might have been a bad idea.

No, I believe you, but he does sell Marshall-based amps with mods/tweaks that are ground up builds and cost nearly $3K. You do take a lot of swipes at him though as my "orange marshall" example points out...

I actually didn't think you would and the feeling is mutual regardless of my thoughts on this particular issue... :inlove:

I do not go to the Metro forum so I have no idea about the Mod5 mod or Jerry doing it as I do not go to his site either.

About the proof, yeah I have photos of exact lifts that were sold as another name and that is the last I am posting of that. Others have the same photos and honestly I thought more members here knew of that crap going on.

The orange headshell line was was just that, "stock" meaning the look of the headshell. Again cannot change your mind but that was pure observation of the classic marshall headshell. They look great in many colors and Jim Marshall got that design right just like the much copied strat body. Just an honest yes it looks great. I guess I am a marked man regardless so I can understand that......the not trusted outsider

If I am on a high horse regarding brad's stuff you will know it but now is not that time, I have moved on and rarely post in brad / cameron threads.

I am surprised you have not posted about when I post about your build, when I compliment your business model and your hard R&D work I am quietly slamming others. You have taken the correct route while others have not.

I've always appreciated your support of what I'm doing with my amp.

Great thread title.

Wish I could watch youtube at work...

You watched the whole vid and that is the only thing that you have?

A men's fashion question?

The only thing that this thread has digressed into is intelligent, respectful debate between two friends. You obviously can't discern the difference between that and "juvenile arguing"...

Steve

I had really high hopes based on the thread title. Barzini is desperately needed for this one...

and FWIW, the left hand glove makes it that much more impressive, because I know I couldn't play like that (period, but that's another story) with a glove on my hand. :D
