Very nice simple rig! Which has everything you would ever need
Thanks, exactly how I feel
I thought about going that route but Mesa Mark Series amps dont work well with the G system so the RG-16 Route with a rack full of pedals is the way im going.
Well, (keeping in mind I've played, but not owned a Mk IV) since the MK IV has 1/4 switching jacks (my xtc doesn't, so I had to get a custom cable made) you could switch 4 of the amp's switchable functions by getting a couple cables made with two 1/4 inch jacks going to one stereo 1/4 inch jack as the G system has 4 switching relays but only 2 stereo jacks. In the end the RG-16 is a solid piece of gear though and probably good to have around regardless of the route you go

I can switch to any channel with or without boost on my xtc but I can't use the standby function and have to leave the loop on at all times (which I'd do anyways with this setup).
Ive compared prices, setup, flexablity and tonality and the RG-16 is the bet way to go although i would have loved the idea of the G system if it wouldnt affect the sound.
Frankly, it doesn't affect the sound, but unless you've owned one AND successfully set it up I can understand if you've read/feel otherwise. There are lots of guys who've complained -online-that it does affect their sound but its user error, bottom line. Ed DeGenaro, Andrew Wood, Peter Thorn, to some extent Vai... plenty of guys that know their stuff and do this for real had no problems. Its not the easiest to setup but that's because its doing a lot (fx pre and post preamp, amp swithing, pedal loops, midi, floorboard, etc.). If you're a plug 'n play kinda guy its not going to work, though I'd think you're not given your setup. I *would* agree that it can be frustrating get the g system setup properly. In the end, the RG-16 is definitely a lot more flexible as a switcher, no question. I wanted quality fx, amp switching and pedal loops and had already used a g-system extensively as my other guitarist in my band had one, so I already knew what was up with it. I have been very disappointed with many FX setups in the past and would not be using this unit if I thought it was affecting my tone though, bottom line.
