So I'm pretty pumped because as the title says, I just finished modding my Peavey VTM60. I was happy with the sound, but it's only a single channel amp, so I wanted another channel. I was using it in stereo with my Mesa, and I didn't want to just cut it out when I switched channels on the Mesa, so I added a clean channel. I also added a 3-way bright switch (normal, cut some brightness, cut more brightness) and added LEDs in the top of the chassis, so it'll glow once it's in a headshell. I still have to make a headshell for this one, but plan on doing it in the same kind of style as the amp I built a couple months ago (natural maple with dovetails). I'll get some pictures up tomorrow of this if you guys are interested.

Apparently   I'll put some pics up tonight. Sheer excitement got the best of me.

Did you bypass all the mini-toggles?

Nope. I left those. I rarely use most of them, but I like having some of the options.

I hated the little dip switches. I yanked it out and put bigger little switches just for the ones I liked. Gain 1, 2 and Mid boost. I may add one for the Compression too. Much easier to mess with the sound now.

Damn! Is that from the mid 80s ? I remember those with Vinnie Moore doing the ads. I had a Peavey Studio Pro that sounded like the VTM heads.

Ok, as promised, some pictures:

Added the concentric knob, turned the low gain jack into a footswitch jack, added the channel switch and bright switch:

This light is on when the clean channel is active:

Red is distortion channel, green is clean:

In the dark, it'll pop more once it's in a headshell, and if it needs more I'll add more.

that's freaking awesome dude.

i was really interested in a vtm but I'm not too sure i want to commit to modding one...

how much trouble was it?

any chance of gut shots?

Thanks. I'm happy with it. It took quite a while to plan out and actually do the work, but it wasn't too bad. I can get gut shots if you're interested. There's not a whole lot to see. I just added another board with the switching and LED supply and all that. I had to add the transformer in the pictures.

Cool. What are the functions of the switches? Is the 1st one for the bright cap? How about the dual post knob? Master for clean/dirty? 2nd switch?

Switch by the jacks is for the channels. Once you plug in the footswitch, it's inactive. The next is a bright switch. It's a three-way and you can take it from bright, to normal, then to taking both the bright cap and the treble peaking cap out if you want it even darker.

Concentric pot is just the master volume and a dirty volume so I can turn that channel, which is louder, down to be equal to the clean.

I don't want to resurrect a dead thread, but where did you find a concentric 1M pot? Did you end up using 500k? If so, did it effect the tone?
