I originally didn't like his Tiger after he put the rosewood neck on, but it's growing on me!

One of my first guitars ever, did all of my learning (setups, mods/upgrades/etc) on this one:
(I hand painted the stripes. Trust me, the pic does it more justice than it deserves!)

And my first EVH build out of a Kramer Stiker body and an Epi strat neck

I really want to do one of these but i want to know for those of you who have built one, what body are you using? How do you trust you don't have a dud or something too bright?? I'm still on the fence as to whether or not overly bright twangy guitars are a result of saddles and bridge or frets and neck or if the body just plain sucks.
