First:

LOVE it.

Great great amp.

Second:

What pedal would you recommend to bring me into BE territory.

Third:

Just outta curiosity ,would it bias up El34s?

Congrats!. I keep the gain at about noon on mine and hit it with a TS or Timmy with good results.

I'm basically running it like an old 800 ,gain dimed ,Keeley RD drive on zero, level dimed.

In this set up,its the JCM800 ya always wanted.

This ^

I been playing with the gain on the TS9 at about 9 o'clock and the level around 3 o'clock. Humbucker guitar going into the low input with the gain on the amp at noon. Going for classic and hard rock tones mainly. The high input with the gain maxed on the amp without a boost is enough gain for anything I'd ever do.

Congrats on a great sounding amp.
TS or Klon type with gain down for boosting.

I like the way the TS tightens things up and adds a lil sparkle with the high input gain dimed.

It's like my Taco only better/bigger sounding. I actually went looking for a Small Box at first but they had a Shirley right beside it so I figured I'd give it a whirl. I really liked the SB ,but once I hit the Shirley I said "ahhhhh". And knew if I hit it with a TS it be great.

So basiclly I got a DS to achieve what the SB does alone ,using a pedal the old fashioned way.

I liked it better.

I got my Dirty Shirley and absolutely loved it. Then I bought a Smallbox thinking it would probably replace the DS. Nope. They're both awesome in their own way, but there's something special about the DS.

I think it's the very slight squish of the tube rectifier and the muscular tone that has the DS edging the SB,plus it's a bit smaller and lighter to lug around, but that don't really matter.
