I was wondering one thing, don't know if this is normal. The blue and red channels, to they share gain stage? While i am on the red channel, if i turn the gain knob on the BLUE channel, the hiss level increases and if playing, the saturation augments also???? So if i set my gain on blue a certain way, my red channel gets affected??? This sucks.

I know that on the 100S 6L6, the Blue and Red channels share the first gain stage. On the the original 5153, the Green and Blue share the first gain stage.

And thanks for posting that clip. That definitely sounds different than the 6L6 version. ( in a good way!) :rock: :rock: :rock:

I dont think the amp should do that with the gain from channel 2 affecting channel 3..I could be wrong though. You coukd ask Howard Kaplan, I think the is a member on here . He is def on the Gear Page.

OK, did a quick clip of the red channel. Haven`t recorded a video in years.

Gain=noon
LOW=11
MIDS=1
HIGHS=11
PRESENCE=NOON
RESONANCE=9
VOLUME=SMIDGE OVER 9

Zoom Q3, EVH Wolfie Drop C, Suhr Aldrich pup.

Has some riffs, open chords and chugs at the end. Fixation on the darkness by Killswitch. Couple fucks here and there, must be the red light stressing me...LOL

Will do more.

Sounds great man, tight playing. It does lack some mid punch and glue tho, I think it sounds like it wants to be turned up louder.

Something is being shared.
You described the original stealth exact. Loved it. But it was 'too fat' as you mention.
Like the more 'cutty ' edge tone. Was what I wanted out the original stealth.
But man. I never even tried or heard an original EVH 5153 100.
That's killin me too!! :doh:

My favorite is still the original 100, man, i looove that amp. I can get that red channel to b perfect for my playing style. I sculpt the fine tuning with an MXR EQ and god damn, it roars. The blue is damn awesome too, it could benefit from a little more gain for metal rhythms, but still, it is a great tone.

But back to the 100S, i could not get along with it, it was too much of everything. Gain, saturation, compression, bloom, fatness.....whatever, just too much.

The el34 can be tamed in comparison, but still, it has a bit of too much. As of now, it is a keeper, but when i get back my BE from Dave, wich has a shit load of options,(JBE mod, two gains, two masters) it can get heavy on the JBE channel, i will A/B them and see. If they are close, the EVH goes. I know they are in the same ballpark, BE having more refineness and note separation and better at everything basically.

Will do a little vid of the blue in a more rock context. Something 80's.....or early 90's....lol.

Yeah, i could turn it up a notch, that would help. But a smidge over 9 is quite loud. Ha ha. I will give it a spin on Sunday nights jam, we'll see how it shines then.

And i always crank the mids on my amps, i like mids.

Thanks man.

I was talking with rockinchippy about this and his does the same thing!!!!! Though a bit less hiss, might be a funky pre here, but still, what the hell, if i like a certain blue setting and a certain red setting on their own, i can't have it??? No way.

A bit deceiving. Damn, i love my trusty old 100, never let me down, except a tube here and there.

I will look into this.

It's unfortunate that you have some issues with the amp, i think it sounds great and fits you're style perfectly. :rock:

Thanks man, yeah it is starting to grow on me.

Issues, well that is the way it designed it seems, i think i can live with that, i will try balancing the gains and see what it does.

Sounds to me like you are walking the fine line between putting this one on the sale block and living with it being "pretty good" vs. what you expected from it. kind of like the 3k bed we just bought.. it just ain't cutting it, it is going back! personally I think it sounds pretty solid but not any different than the way you could dial in a 6505+. Furthermore, for that level of heavy, I would just rock a 6505+ and get a whole pile of cash back! (didn't 6534 have EL34's? Didn't you have one at some point?) It is fun to buy and try stuff though but I think by now we know a lot of our basis are covered with 6505, Rectos,Diezel on the heavies, JCM800's and OR on the old school, FEnder/Vox on the cleans. Friedman if you have the cash.

Yup you are very right my friend, my thoughts exactly. It is damn fine sounding amplifier but i have a 5152, 5153 and a BE100, and like u said, it does not sound that much different than all of these. I will probably sell it and concentrate on my BE for the EL34 tones. It is at Dave's place as we speak being updated. Can't wait to get it back.

I will try and get a little vid of the blue later today, just for fun.

About the 6534+, that was a damn fine amp, i loved that thing but it sounded very much like my BE on the JBE mode, very heavy sounding with that el34 bark. Very greqt amp for a very fair price, a steal.

Lol, we always go for a tone we have in our head, and that is the tone i always end up with, and you know waht? I loooove it.

But i think i will put it up for sale, not that i don't like it, but i already have a 5152, a 5153, a BE100 with JBE mod, A Peters triple and a VHT UL, oh and an ENGL Blackmore. Fuck, that is too much no!!!!!

In the end, i always thrive for the same tones, and if it does not come come close, i am not happy. ..

Nothing set in stone but leaning into that direction.

And to be clear, i looooove the amp and it sounds awesome. But not any better to me than my evh 100. That blue channel is just pure sex to my ears. The red is my brutal go to.

What cab do you prefer to match with the evh?

The EVH cab sounds great with it, but I'm using a Mesa Stilleto cab with V 30's with the band and it is awesome.

:lol: :LOL: I know where you are coming from.. Some of my recordings I have to check to see which amp I used (EVH5153, 6505+ BE100 etc..) because I dial 'em in the same.. But that amp sounds awesome to me! Great tone and fretwork! :rock:

Thanks man, and yes i do like the tones. But at this point in time, it overlaps too much with my amps. I wanted to try it out and i did.

If i didn't already own all my amps, this would be staying.
